I'm just enquiring about a sampler patch that lets you assign different samples to different keys on your midi keyboard.
I'm new to the PD realm so I'm not very experienced at all obviously.
If it's not possible to make such a thing in PD are there any alternatives?

If you look in the PD documentation, under "audio examples" theres a patch called "one shot sampler"

this can make up the basis of what you want.

then if you look in control examples, you can find some midi examples, and using the two together, (as the french say) TA-DA! you have yourself a sampler.
