So i've been wanting to make a DJ patch but not sure how to go about doing so...

I know how to make a sample player but I want to be able to play more than 30sec of a song.

Is that the only path or is there another solution?

Are you thinking of mixing and beatmatching mp3s? then currently there is no external that could take care of that unfortunately.

What material are you trying to mix? If you had a set of components like loops and stuff, then you could Dj that anyway you like, bit like Ableton. Hardoff has posted setups that he's used for his sets - might give you ideas [need link here!]

You CAN play mp3 with the set of externals in unauthorized lib. But as for realtime decompression and manipulation like Traktor, thats another kettle of fish. If you just want to dj stuf then use ableton or traktor - i would. No need to reinvent the wheel (unless you want to). Those apps have been developed over time and are tailored for it. Use Pd to do something they can't do....

I've DJ'd with Pd before, albeit not in front of an audience. Was fun looping sections and using fx and stuff... so it's not impossible...

[readanysf~] has variable-speed playback. But: the original version is unmaintained (wouldn't compile last time I checked), and the new rewrite is brand new and so probably not as tested.

The aubio library for feature extraction (tempo, beats, etc) might be useful too.

well i'm still not sure what i will have it feature i was going to just make it simple like two decks and a mixer and just load one song on each deck.

i use ableton for most of my live shows anyway but i wanted to make a performance patch from PD.
