pd-else + libpd on iOS

Hi, I'm trying to use pd-else with libpd on ios.

I'm makeing pd-else for PLATFORM=x86-64-apple-ios, copying over the output (objectsdir) to my bundle resources, building libpd with ADDITIONAL_LDFLAGS=-ldl, adding with the output to search path PdBase.add(toSearchPath: Bundle.main.resourcePath)

@anvlkv for [out~] it is finding it, there's no issue (you're just seeing the loader trying binaries first in the logs). So maybe you want to suppress those logs somehow (I forget right now, there might be some verbose setting either while compiling or running..)

as for the other error, it probably has to do with how the search paths are set up (I'm not that familiar w/ libpd..). Anyways for an easy (but not best) fix I think it should work if you create the object like just [lb]

But to me it's odd for 'else' just to sit in your .app file directly.. I would at least put else in some subdirectory (like 'extra_obj'), and set your pd path to it instead, then in your pd patch create every object like [else/out~].

I thought the accepted place to put things like that was some subdirectory of Resources though..

check out plugdata for ios, its super alpha, but it has [else] installed. just checked on my phone and something like the help for [pluck~] works

Getting 3rd party externals with libpd on iOS is not that straight forward. Because iOS doesn't allow dynamically linked libraries, you have to statically link them. So you have to include all of the source code for each external in your Xcode project and then called their external_setup() function in the ApplicationDelegate.m or somewhere in your code. As for abstractions like out~.pd, those can be put with your patch in the Resources, or sub folders and use the [declare] object. They work as expected since they are just text files.
This doesn't mean the externals will work as expected, they may have bugs or other issues on the iPhone chips (arm64), or have other issues when actually running on a device.

It is a matter of simply adding necessary .c files along with the libpd build. No need to make else.

Unfortunate part is that it should be done for each external you want to use, It also has to call the external_setup() for each external from my code, in swift project it also has to be added to a bridging header like extern void external_setup(void);. Externals in my patch should be just external and not else/external, then it finds it and works perfectly well.

P.S. shame I didn't see any notification from here wouldn't have to spend 3 days figuring this
