Sometimes after modifying a patch containing one of the IEMGUI objects (Number2, Vslider, Hslider, Vradio or Hradio), I'm no longer able to edit the properties. If I try to open the properties window (either in edit mode or run mode, it doesn't matter), I get a Tck/TK error like the one below. The object still works in run mode, but I can no longer edit the properties. When this happens I usually end up deleting it and creating it all over again, which works but is rather frustrating and time-consuming.

I'm running Pd v0.51..3 under Windows 7 (64-bit), but this has always been an issue, ever since I started using Pd several years ago. I think I've seen it happen under Linux as well, although I haven't been using Linux much lately. Does anyone know what causes this error?

I have almost no tcl error with GUI and pd-0.52
Most of the tcl/tk errors from IEMGui comes from unsupported / special characters used in some fields, there are fixed every new version but few might still be here.

Could you share the exact step to reproduce this error?

@60hz Thanks. I did a little more investigation. It was working until I added code to change the label of the Vradio by sending it a message. It seems that if there's a space in the label initially, it gets replaced by an underscore, which doesn't look very nice to me. So I added the code (see screen print) to set the label to "MOD TYPE" (with a space) instead of "MOD_TYPE". That's when I started getting the error. When I removed that change, all was well again, I could edit the properties in the property window.

So it seems there are two issues: the first one, spaces get replaced by underscores if you initialize the label in the property window, but not if you set the label by sending a message to the object. This seems somewhat inconsistent to me, but there's probably an historical reason for it.

The second issue is that after you modify a property by sending a message to an object, you can no longer open the properties window without getting a Tcl error. This seems a little more serious, I might even call it a bug. I'll try v0.52, but I don't expect it will make any difference, since I've always had this problem, through many different versions of Pd. It's only now that I think I've found the cause of it.

This is this is fixed in pd-0.52
The underscore replacement is no more and the behavior is the same in property and using message.

I tried pd-0.51-4 and I have a tcl error like you if I go to properties after setting a space in label name. So, go for pd-0.52

But an new bug has been introduced with " character, so avoid them until it is fixed...
