I am struggling to get [hid] external installed and running on Purr Data. I downloaded and unzipped this, https://puredata.info/downloads/hid/?searchterm=hid and placed the folder (renamed to hid) inside /Plugins, and the console says:

libdir_loader: added 'hid' to the canvas-local objectclass path
error: maximum object loading depth 1000 reached

Wth? Is it safe to delete an unused/unwanted external, to see if I can FINALLY get [hid] working?

Installed pd vanilla, then the deken plugin. Installed cyclone library, which works fine. Used deken to search for hi and for hid. No externals found?? Sod it. I'll have to just hack my controller and use serial-usb. Sigh

Sierra. Used deken in pd to look for hid, and they are all i386-32 versions. It's not a 32 v 64 bit issue surely?

It almost certainly is an arch issue.

At least in the hid that ships with Purr Data, it appears the hid source for OSX relies on the Carbon libraries. Those libs are 32-bit AFAICT.

Does your controller work using the HTML5 Gamepad API?

I'd much prefer rolling together something that relies on that. It wouldn't work in "-nogui" mode, but at least it would be cross-platform.

yes, it shows up in the gamepad API (thanks, that's a cool little app), and also works under MaxMSP using its [hi] object. As far as you are aware, is there no 64-bit version of [hid], for either Purr Data or pd-vanilla? The only other solution I can think of is to hack the controller to an Arduino and use [comport].

I can't speak for Pd Vanilla-- but in Purr Data there is no hid for OSX 64-bit. Someone would have to rewrite the hid.darwin layer and use the non-ancient OSX API to get it to work. (And then it still wouldn't work under Windows, so I personally wouldn't prioritize that work.)

Under Gnu/Linux, I can confirm [hid] works under i386, x86_64, and armv7l.
