XmiX announce
Ok, so I managed to compile mrpeach's OSC objects in Xcode (I can upload the project if needed).
Then I copied them into '/XmiX-rev176/x_ABS/mrpeach'
However, I still get the same error:
joe:XmiX-rev176 $ ./XmiX.sh

I checked the ports and there doesn't seem to be anything on TCP 3000 or 3001. Do you know a terminal command to check this? I'm just running $ netstat | grep 3000
Thanks for the help,
Joe
XmiX announce
hi,
from the README:
"XmiX is written in Pure Data ‘vanilla’ 0.42.6 with the Martin Peach’s OSC objects compiled as an external. You can obviously run it also on Pd-extended."
so.. if you are using "Pd 'vanilla'" you got to compile the mrpeach's OSC objects separately,
if you're using "pd-extended" the OSC objects should be in "..../extra/mrpeach/..." as in the last pd-extended version, so in pd-extended it should work without change anything (and it should work also opening the "x_OSC_server.pd" patch).
NOTE: XmiX uses the TCP ports 3000 and 3001... so this ports should be free on your system (no other deamons should bind it).
however I never got the error you posted... pleasae let me know if it works...
thanks

Is this something to do with OSC? Do Martin Peach's OSC object come with XmiX?
For example when I run x_OSC_server.pd it can't create 'mrpeach/unpackOSC'
Should I download the separate externals as well?
Thanks,
Joe

hi,
a new revision... check it out if you pleased:
http://puredata.info/Members/gabbro/XmiX-rev176.tar.bz2/at_download/file
changelog: put paths declaration out of the startup shell script and added them in the patches with [declare]. Now all should be started even without the script (via pd->open).

hi,
after two years of lurkin'n'coding I wrote XmiX, a full OSC oriented 8 tracks environment with client/server architecture over TCP/IP:

totally, i actually starting writing about that, but then halted as I thought poor gregor would get information overload!
ok...i've opened a can of worms here.......
Personally I use SSSAD for abstractions, or rather Chris McCormicks version of it. There is also a recent addition called [presetstore ] where by you can create multiple presets in the patch. Ive got into the habit of making my abstractions sssad ready - i doesn't take that much extra when you get into it. Its fecking neat i think.

http://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/2007-04/049452.html (for [presetstore] )
Theres another idea in the BOT abstractions (thats Bag of TRicks) that is similar to SSSAD, in that it uses messages, but instead of being centralized, you attach a message box to the input and output of each abstraction. See

Announcement: Pd Book is released
I am pleased to announce that the big Pure Data (Pd) tutorial I wrote
in the last years with the help of a grant by the Music University of
Freiburg / Germany, is now online, in english and in german.
It is also available as a book (paperback) and can be purchased at Wolke Publishing House.
http://www.wolke-verlag.de/musik_u_t/loadbang.html
Pd was initiated by American software engineer Miller Puckette, who
previous co-developed the well known and similarly structured software
Max/Msp. Pd is not commercial software; i.e., it was not developed by
a corporation and is not for sale. Instead, it is "open source": its
source code is not the (patented) property of a corporation, but is
rather freely available to all. One drawback to this is that a
detailed operating manual for users who lack programming experience
has not existed until now. In contrast to a corporation--- which has a
monetary interest in ensuring that first-time users can easily operate
new software---the open source movement lacks such a driving force to
make itself accessible. This book is an attempt to fill that gap.
This tutorial is designed for self-study, principally for composers.
It begins with explanations of basic programming and acoustic
principles then gradually builds up to the most advanced electronic
music processing techniques. The book's teaching approach is focused
primarily on hearing, which we consider a faster and more enjoyable
way to absorb new concepts than through abstract formulas.
The patches described are available for download.

Johannes Kreidler
