I've changed to ubuntu ... but met new problem ...
I want to remove them all and reinstall , but in root terminal it report me 0 files has been removed .
so I removed all the pd folder in terminal
after that I reinstalled the extended-intrepid version . but
when I run in terminal , a report shows here:
priority 98 scheduling enabled.
sh: /usr/local/bin/pd-watchdog: not found
priority 96 scheduling enabled.
sh: /usr/local/bin/pd-gui: not found
and I think that because I removed pd-0.40.2 folder which I compiled before.
and then I'm searching from google ,that the files which we compiled that should be install and removed by checkinstall.
so I downloaded the package and installed in terminal .
but checkinstall failed ..
report is here :

I dont know what to do now ....
I've changed to ubuntu ... but met new problem ...
latest news: Ive successfully installed pd-extended on Ubuntu , including Gem and other libraries ,
they all works well !!
thanks Sunji ,radiostarkiller, nestor and my friends Jun.
here's my whole process:
1,download and install the latest Ubuntu 8.10 intrepid , then update system up-to-date
2,download the right version for your sys , for me , choose pd-extended intrepid deb package , and just double click it and install , the deb package could auto-download and install the related files from your install source.
3,after install finished, you could run pd-extend from terminal. but here we met a new problem, cannot load Gem successful. // don't worry, we just leave little half step to rush the finishing line @@)
4,turn on terminal, update apt-get source : sudo apt-get update
5, still terminal : apt-get install gem // pd and Gem would be downloaded from you source ftp , after that , type "pd" in terminal , new pd running out it's window , but none libraries was loaded.(@#$%!@ Holy.!#$%)
6, this situation we met before, similar but actually very different. last time I installed 2 version of pd in different path, and make sys disorder . but this time , the same path. and what I've done is to uninstall pd in terminal : "sudo apt-get remove pd" ,
7, backing to the extended deb package we downloaded before, and install again.
8: run pd ... Gem and other packages loading successful !
conclusion: I guess maybe don't need so complex to work it out, the key point I think is to install Gem from source, and it would install any package that Gem must needed .
that's it
thanks again and enjoy pd@Linux now
--------------------------- OLD POST -----------------------------------------------
because less user on Mandriva , so I changed my sys to Ubuntu yesterday.
and here I met new prolbem for installing pd-extended for Ubuntu.
before I install pd-extended , I installed these packages first:
libasound2 (>> 1.0.12)
libc6 (>= 2.5-0ubuntu1)
libjack0.100.0-0 (>= 0.101.1)
dep: tcl8.4 (>= 8.4.5)
dep: tk8.4 (>= 8.4.5)
and when I run pd install , both Hardy and Gutsy that showed error here :
Gutsy ; Error:Dependency is not satisfiable: libgsl0
Hardy: Error:Dependency is not satisfiable: liblame0
I searched them in package manager , I thought they were both about the libraries that I've installed above.
thats it

Can't get an executable application of pd extended in Fedora 10
Hi,
I apologize to ask for a total beginner's question relative to Fedora here. But where else to ask...
I downloaded and installed the latest version of pd extended for Fedora core 6/Planet CCRMA. I blindly assumed that this installer would create an application like the OS X installer. So I ran the install from the terminal and I saw all the libraries flashing by. In the folder where I had downloaded the archive there was a new locked folder "pd" with a bin that I assume holds the applications properly spoken. However these files do not open, there's "pd", "pdsend", "pdreceive" and "cyclist". All libs are in the folder that the readme file inside the installer indicates, so that should be correct.
All example files are identified by Fedora as executables, but they wouldn't open as well, even when I ask to open it with the 'pd' file inside that bin folder I mentioned earlier.
What am I missing? I don't even know what "core" in the installer file means. There is no help desk about pd on CCRMA. The only files there are from 1999 and suggest to open the application form the terminal window. I tried to do so, I got a Libjack error message 'cannot open shared object' and that was the end of that.
Anybody knows what I'm missing? I do not know if I could (and should) download an Ubuntu installer. I do not know HOW different the Linux distris are from each other...
Best
Jurgen

Pdp crash when opening display - osx 10.4
hi all,
i'm trying to get pdp working on an intel mac with osx 10.4 and pd-extended 0.38-4
i have apple's x11 installed, and installed the default font that pdp uses so it does load when i launch pd without any errors.
i use pdp_ieee1394 instead of pdp_v41, and pdp_glx instad of pdp_xv, so there are no complaints about any of the patches i try (including ones without pdp_ieee1394)
but when i try to start running a patch, the display window appears for a brief second and then pd crashes. in the error console i get:
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 129 (Apple-DRI)
Minor opcode of failed request: 1 ()
Serial number of failed request: 28
Current serial number in output stream: 28
pd_gui: pd process exited
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Which Distro?
Try this live CD to test out your system
http://puredyne.goto10.org/
Imho the best permenant install is done with a stock Debian system.
Start by downloading the Debian base.
Then select "desktop system" from the second stage install
Boot into the Gnome desktop and then
apt-get install alsa-base
apt-get install alsa-utils
apt-get install jackd
apt-get install qjackctl
run alsaconf
then
apt-get install blackbox
set blackbox as your default window manager in gdm
Sadly there is no Debian "A/V workstation" yet, so you'll be missing the realtime low latency kernel. But it makes a solid system to start work with.
After that you'll need to be more specific about your "headaches"

I don't have any other PD install. Just the ccrma.
I think (i don't remember) that i have installed ruby from the source.
Install gridflow on linux
_I've tried to install under root session but it still doesn't work!...
the full output for 'make install' is (sorry this is very very very long!!!): _
Wow, so long that it got truncated by the forum... That looks like the output from a normal 'make', 'make install' output is usually only about 20 lines or so - so I don't know what is going on. Maybe make didn't finish properly and make install tried to make again? Either way, the last 20 lines of output of 'make' and 'make install' would be helpful.
Some more questions:
Do you have more than one Pd installed (like one from ccrma and one from source)? Gridflow sometimes gets confused about which Pd to use/where to install, if you have more than one.
DId you install ruby from source? If you installed ruby from apt-get / rpm, then I think gridflow.so should be installed with the ruby packages in /usr/... and not /usr/local/...
Gridflow on agnula demudi ?
I'm not too familiar with debian, but I think you need to install the *-dev packages for the libraries that gridflow uses.
Something like:
apt-get install libjpeg-dev libpng-dev libquicktime-dev libmpeg3-dev libsdl-dev ...
(some might not have lib in front of the name, as I said I'm not very familiar with debian package naming conventions).
Also, not having "stl" seems to me to indicate that you don't have a C++ development environment: you need gcc and g++ and libstdc++. I don't know which debian packages provide those.
Gridflow uses Ruby, so you need to install ruby-dev. I think you must have ruby installed, because I think Gridflow's ./configure is a ruby script.
I think all of them can be installed with apt-get though. On gentoo I had to install a lot of stuff, I kept doing 1. run ./configure, 2. install missing packages, 3. if stuff is missing goto 1. But I got it working in the end. On gentoo at least there is nothing that isn't packaged that you need to install before gridflow would compile with plenty of options.
