pd-else + libpd on iOS
Hi, I'm trying to use pd-else with libpd on ios.
I'm make
ing pd-else for PLATFORM=x86-64-apple-ios
, copying over the output (objectsdir
) to my bundle resources, building libpd with ADDITIONAL_LDFLAGS=-ldl
, adding with the output to search path PdBase.add(toSearchPath: Bundle.main.resourcePath)
When I'm trying to open a patch which uses pd-else
Some attempts to find files are successful:

playing multiple audio files with sf-play2~
@KMETE If you give all the files a number instead of the name it is easy and you don't need [file glob]
AAaaargh...... should be [declare -path] ... not [declare patch]
Output directly into the inlet of [sf-play2~] that takes the file name.
Then start the player....
If you don't then you need to assign a number to each file.
You cannot add it to the name because [sf-play2~] will only play the actual file name.
You have 3 options.
- change the names to numbers before you start.... as above.
- automate replacing the file names with numbers using a command line script after [file glob]....
- associate, in Pd, a number with the file name........ cart5.zip
For it to run in vanilla you will need to get the missing externals, or replace them with the appropriate [file] objects.
[tof/folderpath] [ext13/strippath] and [folder_list]
Dynamic patching......... there will now be another way using [list store].
It creates a [tracklist_button] for each file in a folder and displays it in the sub-patch [pd tracklist].
Each [tracklist_button has 2 arguments.
The first is the file name.
The second argument..... 1 to n...... is the associated number assigned, and sending that number into [s playit] will send the original file name into [readsf~] which can of course be [sf-play2~] instead.

ofelia on raspberry pi?
Hi,
I am trying to get ofelia to run on a couple of rpi. Right now I am trying a rpi 3B+ running https://blokas.io/patchbox-os/
I run ofeila with the ofelia-fast-prototyping abs on my mac successfully.
Following install instructions here https://github.com/cuinjune/Ofelia
after running
sudo ./install_dependencies.sh
it ends like this:
detected Raspberry Pi
installing gstreamer omx
Reading package lists... Done

gstreamer1.0-omx is already the newest version (1.0.0.1-0+rpi12+jessiepmg).
The following package was automatically installed and is no longer required:
raspinfo
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove it.

Thankful for help!
reading data from Arduino using comport
You have to read the Arduino code that comes with the abstractions to understand. The tags are used to separate values or lists of values. If you want to send one value per tag you should do something like this:
Serial.print("value_ch0 "); // mind the white space after the tag name
Serial.println(value1); // I assume that 'value1' here is a variable that holds the value you want to send
Serial.print("value_ch1 ");
Serial.print(value2);
Though this is rather cumbersome, it's better to do this in a loop, like this:
for (int i = 0; i < numCh; i++) {
// construct a string like "value_ch0 ", "value_ch1 ", etc. using std::to_string from C++
Serial.print("value_ch" + to_string(i) + " ");
Serial.println(values[i]); // this example assumes you have all your values in an array called "values"
}
But you could also use just one tag and send all your values under that tag and in Pd separate them with [unpack]
. In this case the code would be something like this:
Serial.print("values "); // take care to include the white space
for (int i = 0; i < numValues; i++) {
Serial.print(values[i]);
Serial.print(" "); // print a white space to separate values
}
Serial.println(); // finally print the newline character to denote the end of the list
Midi Rotary Knob Direction Patch/Algorythm?
Hey everybody,
Sorry, for a lot of text. But the bold text at the bottom is my main question. The rest will help you to get a better understanding of my situation.
you helped me so much, with my last question here (the Faders are working dope now):
https://forum.pdpatchrepo.info/topic/13849/how-to-smoothe-out-arrays/25
I am doing a Steinberg Houston to Mackie Control emulation at the moment, to use my controller with other DAWs than Cubase/Nuendo. Will upload it to the internet community, when I am finished for the handful of people that maybe are also using this controller.
I made good progress:
I got the Faders and the normal knobs to work. And the display puts out information. But it is with bugs, because the LCD Screen of the Houston has 40 characters for one line and the Mackie Universal Pro has 56 Characters. So i did a list algorithm, which deletes spaces of the mackie message until the message fits on the 40 character line. Maybe there is a method wich will work better but this subject eats too much time for me at the moment and it works rough okay. One defenitely get's some helpful information on the screen from the DAW.
The Faders and Rotary Knobs and normal knobs are the most important of this controller I guess. The Faders are working fine as I mentioned above, but there is a problem with the rotary knobs, wich I can't handle alone and hope you can help me.
The problem is, that the Mackie Controller send simple clicks to the DAW. If you are turning a rotary knob, it sends out a number of midi messages:
If you turn it right, it sends midi messages wich contains the value 1 and if you turn it down it sends messages wich are containing the value 65.
"When the VPots are rotated rapidly, a message equal to the number of clicks is sent."
BUT the Houston controller instead is sending values like it's faders with 15 (MSB) and 128(LSB) values. AND it is updating the rotary limit by itself. So if I turn a rotary, it will update it's LEDs and stops sending midi messages when it reaches the maximum or minimum value. So, I did this patch as a momentary state:
The DAW sends 11 values for the Houston LEDs. 11 is max and 1 is min. This is good, I send this values to my houston controller and can update the rotary values and LEDs.
With this updated values from the DAW, I can force my rotary knobs, that they don't stop to send values, because they are set to the values, which the DAW sends, every time I turn a knob. With this method I got it to work to imitate a Mackie Rotary knob. Everytime the Houston Rotary value changes, it sends Mackie "midi click values" according to the amount of midi value changes of the houston.
BUT the problem is, that this is working only in one direction. Now my main question:
How can I make pure Data know, if I am turning my knob in the left direction or in the right direction? There is also the problem, which I mentioned above, that I set the momentary value everytime, I move the rotary, so that I get a unlimited amount of possible rotary move "clicks". Also the midi values which the houston sends arent perfect smooth. It works fine, but it isn't like that, that if you move a rotary in one direction, every value one by another is perfectly lower or higher.
I think I maybe need a algorythm, which looks if the values in a time period are getting higher or lower and then send out bangs on two seperate outlets. For example the left outlet for lower values and the right outlet for higher values. And it should also detect, if I move the rotary fast or slow. So a constant smoothing or clocked bang is also not an option. This is defenitely to complicated for me. I have no idea and what I tried didn't worked.
Would be super cool, if you could help me out again.

Camomile : An audio plugin that loads Pure Data patches
Hello, I have some very basic questions about Camomile.
Following the documentation, I have successfully loaded AlmondOrgan into my DAW (Cakewalk by Bandlab). I copied Camomile.vst3 from the Camomile folder to the AlmondOrgan folder, changed the file's name to AlmondOrgan.vst3, and copied the AlmondOrgan folder from the Examples folder to C:/Users/Program Files/Common Files/VST3, and Cakewalk then found and loaded the patch. I also got MiniMock to work using the same process.
However, I cannot get a Pure Data patch other than the patches in the Examples folder to work. I have been following a YouTube series showing the development of a Pure Data synthesizer, and wanted to load that synthesizer into Cakewalk. I downloaded and unzipped the zip file (it is the final version, lesson_16.zip, on this website: http://lwmmusic.com/learning-lswpd-1.html), copied Camomile.vst3 from the Camomile folder to the lwm_fam2_synthesizer folder (which is what's inside the lesson_16 download), changed the file's name to lwm_fam2_synthesizer.vst3, and copied the lwm_fam2_synthesizer folder to C:/Users/Program Files/Common Files/VST3. When I then try to use the synthesizer in Cakewalk, the GUI is replaced with a "Plugin Not Valid" message, and the console warns that Camomile can't find configuration files. I also tried the same process except renaming the Camomile.vst3 file as modules.vst3 (corresponding to modules.pd, the name of the synthesizer file), with the same erroneous result. I am unable to determine how much, if any, of the "How to create new plugins" page of the documentation applies here. It's just a bit too much technicality without context for me to understand what parts of it are required just to get going and what parts are customization options.
My first question is, are patches created using Camomile itself, or are they created independently using Pure Data, with Camomile being applied to them only after they are already created? In other words, do I need to copy the contents of the downloaded synthesizer files and paste them into new Camomile patches?
My second question is, what other steps are required to load the downloaded synthesizer files into Cakewalk using Camomile?
Doubts with logical operands and operations
I have implemented this code.
It aims to determine the coefficients of the 8 drivers for a headset with 4 drivers on each side, depending on the position of our virtual source.
For this as input values we have a hslider that takes values between 0 and 360 for the horizontal position, and a vslider that takes values between -40 and 90 for the vertical position. In this way we can define the position on an almost complete sphere.
I am not an experienced user in Pure Data and I have several errors that maybe someone can help me to solve.
- When I generate a number object, the upper and lower limits are not respected.
I have the intuition that this is because the limits are only respected when the user manually slides the cursor to change the value of the number object. On the contrary if the value of the number object is modified by the code itself these limits are not applied.
- This raises my second doubt, since theoretically these coefficients are calculated in such a way that the maximum value of 1 is never exceeded. The problem is that the conditional <> sometimes do not work correctly.
If the initial value is lower than 90 or higher than 120 the spigot should receive a 0 and therefore not pass this value.
We can see how 121 is higher than 120 but still the spigot transfers the value. The subsequent calculations are designed to result in a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 1, which is not being fulfilled due to this error.
3 Finally, I have calculation errors in basic operations such as subtraction.
1 - 0.652 = 0.348 . The calculation performed by pure data results in 0.307 .
If anyone has any suggestions or explanations as to why this is not working properly I would be very grateful.
If there is any doubt about my explanations I will be happy to try to explain.
I insist that my level in Pd is very low and I may be making very basic mistakes, do not hesitate to suggest changes or improvements.
Thank you.

Debugging Externals With Xcode 12
For anyone interested, I was able to figure out how to do it using the original guide for earlier Xcode versions. The mistake I was making was to attach the full package of Pure Data to the debugging scheme as the executable. The correct way of doing it is to link the actual executable file as described below.
In Xcode (this is v 12.3):
- Create a new debugging scheme
- Edit the new scheme:
- In the Executable drop-down menu, select Other...
- Find the executable for pd (e.g. /Applications/Pd-0.51-3.app/Contents/Resources/bin/pd)
The settings for the scheme should look like this (notice the setting for Launch - Automatically)
- Build and run the external. This will start Pd. The actual debugging will begin when you instantiate the external object inside a patch.
In my case, I added a breakpoint inside the bang() method. Upon receiving the bang, the breakpoint is reached:
