I'm working on a series of embedded sound installation projects - trying to stabilize PD (so far Vanilla) running on cheap over-the-counter Android sticks, stripped to Linux / Picuntu. Using cheap Behringer USB soundcard (UCA202) for audio IO. So total system (1.8 Ghz / Quad Core / 2GB RAM / 8GB Memory / wifi etc / external USB sound) is around $100. Seems like a viable alternative to Pi/Udoo.

The system is almost there - but I'm having some problems that seem to stem from the wifi chip introducing some glitches in audio IO. I'm using Jack for audio, some pretty basic settings, 1 in and 2 outs. I need wifi for netsend etc - so I can't run with it disabled.

I'm working towards a deadline, and I was wondering if anyone else is working on anything like this with similar hardware, who might have some thoughts about working through this?

I started off thinking I was going to develop my system using libpd / Android, but then managed to install Picuntu and getting so close that I don't want to have to go back …

OK - some progress.

It's working fine now. The glitches have disappeared with a lot of experimentation with how everything is physically connected.

Now I have a powered USB hub connected to the Momi's main USB port (powering it and also connecting to a keyboard & mouse). I have the Behringer soundcard connected (and powered) via the Momi's USB OTG port, with a little USB adapter.

Now I have 2 inputs and 2 outputs, working fine - no glitches, and no need to try to run anything in realtime mode (as this really isn't supported on these devices yet, I'm finding out). I have latency down to 35 ms - which for my purpose is totally fine.

Wifi is working, netsend receiving commands and no interruptions to the audio stream.

I'll post some details when the project is done and if anyone is interested in this setup let me know.

I just ordered four more of the Momi computers .. price now is 47 USD each. Reasonable.
