    Hi,

    I own a number of humanoid robots, and they have bluetooth interfaces. I have in my head the idea I can use Puredata to play music from my computer and at the same time send a signal to instruct the robot to perform a move/step.

    Running Win7 I know Puredata doesn't have a working HID command, which is why I have learned how to connect Processing to Puredata via OSC.

    I have successfully tested sending a packet of data from a Puredata patch, to a Processing sketch, to my bluetooth device and have confirmed the data has been received. That is the hardware all sorted, that means I can send signals from Puredata and it will be received by my robots no problem.

    But I am a complete novice when it comes to Puredata, midi's and music.

    I basically want to replicate how lights can be synchronized to music, but instead of lights being the output it will be my robots.

    Do I need to invent the wheel, or is there a patch somewhere that already has signals connected to music which I can modify for my own music (i.e. mp3, wav file etc) and purposes?

    I started two days ago, I've got this far, but I want to put together something for a display on September the 8th and I'm hoping I can fast track it by leveraging the collective talent on this forum.

    Thanks in advance,
    Michael

    Hi,

    Most dancing robots you see on YouTube are a preprogrammed sequence of steps and the timing of the moves is luck or a good trigger.

    I been wanting to have a system which is more autonomous, and when I came across PureData I thought it just may be possible.

    So far I can play iTunes and use BONK and FIDDLE to generate numbers which I can send via OSC to Processor, which can pass it onto my bluetooth receiver which is on the robot.

    But as I have not yet fine tuned Puredata the numbers (data) is not yet useful. I really need someone who may be interested in helping me with a patch that could through out a datastream which (a) isn't to fast (b) simple.

    I saw this paper using Puredata with a virtual avatar http://www.acmp.asia/acmp2011papers/pdf/0401weerasinghe.pdf

    These are the robots I have access to which have bluetooth receivers;

    Hi,

    Back again, I worked out my issues with iTunes and Puredata. I now play music in iTunes, and via ASIO4ALL have that feed into Puredata.

    The problem was that I had too many things enabled in ASIO4ALL. I've attached an image that shows my ASIO4ALL settings.

    FYI, the versions I'm using;

    • Windows 7
    • Puredata 0.42.5 extended
    • iTunes 10
    • ASIO4ALL v2.10

    I didn't need to use Jack for this.

    Hope that helps some people.

    Hi again,

    My PD learning curve is steep, but its progressing.

    I was able to use Olaf Matthes' showcolors2 patch to confirm PD is working on my system.

    I installed both Jack and ASIO4ALL on my Win7 machine, but I have an issue with audio input.

    I don't appear to be able to get iTunes output to be PD input. I have had no luck with Jack, but I did have some partial success with ASIO4ALL.

    With ASIO4ALL using the settings shown in the PDF attached to this post, I was able to get audio from my browser (i.e. Youtube) to work with the showcolors2 patch very nicely.

    But if I start iTunes, no audio. If I change the ASIO4ALL settings I lose the Youtube sound but do not gain the iTunes sound in compensation.

    Can anyone walk me through what I need to do to get iTunes to play nice with Puredata on a windows machine?

    Note: I also turned off both "Exclusive Mode" check boxes on my speakers.

    Regards
