    hi, can the keyboard affect gem when gemwin is open and selected? I have tried though it seems the keyboard has no effect. If gemwin is open but a patch window is selected, however, the keyboard works as normal. Though, when gemwin open, or in fullscreen, it does not. I'm using Mac currently. I don't see why my computer's speed could halt keyboard operation here, and my computer seems fast enough otherwise. I'll be testing this with linux hopefully tonight.

    hi, if this is too dumb a question on my part, then dont bother. i currently have this random version of linux on a computer. I got PD on it, though it has issues opening GEm (its pd-extended, probably newest version, got it like 4 days ago or less). I downloaded Gem from that IEM website and read instructions for installing the GEM folder. It said a lot of stuff by running the makefile and makeauxlibs out of the source folder. I found these files. (I also have gcc if thats of help). I was wondering what to do. I've like clicked these makefile and makeauxlibs files and I don't know if that's supposed to do anything, I can't tell if it did. I've never done this make thing before and I dont understand how it works. Pointing to a solution elsewhere on the internet that describes this stuff or some aid would help much. thanks

    hi, forgot how to get the result to be a condensed h u p (hup). Attachment below... Perhaps an extra bang is needed. Did it before in a patch that freezes on startup now.

    hi, wondrin if anyone can like think of a way that a message can recognize itself.

    Like if you give [turkeyrobot( a bang, and send it in the direction of both [creature( and [turkeyrobot(, only [turkeyrobot( will give a bang from its outlet. Feeling a tad bit slow at moment, and very un-creative.. ok

    hi, this is probably quickly answerable if anyone's seen this at least once. I e-mailed myself a patch over yahoo. some reason, it wasnt exactly an attachment, but sort of a text document in the body. most of the patch looks like this:

    #X obj 248 190 pack s s;
    #X msg 249 240 symbol \$1\$2;
    #X connect 0 0 9 0;
    #X connect 2 0 7 0;
    #X connect 3 0 6 0;
    #X connect 4 0 10 1;
    #X connect 5 0 10 0;
    #X connect 6 0 7 0;
    #X connect 7 0 8 0;
    #X connect 8 0 1 0;
    #X connect 9 0 5 0;
    #X connect 9 1 4 0;
    #X connect 10 0 11 0;
    #X connect 11 0 3 0;
    #X restore 840 740 pd two;
    #X obj 1501 374 tgl 15 0 empty empty empty 17 7 0 10 -262144 -1 -1
    0 1;
    #X obj 42 671 tgl 15 0 empty empty empty 17 7 0 10 -262144 -1 -1 0
    1;
    #N canvas 0 0 591 565 one 0;
    #X obj 128 38 inlet;
    #X obj 329 510 outlet;
    #X obj 43 219 inlet;
    #X symbolatom 358 283 10 0 0 0 - - -;
    #X symbolatom 234 158 10 0 0 0 - - -;
    #X msg 360 331 set \$1;
    #X msg 373 373 four;

    I've tried deleting the #X's and #N's of the first few lines to see if that would do it. Eitherway, PD console says usually:
    #N: no such object
    error:
    #X: no such object
    error:
    #X: no such object
    error:
    #X: no such object
    error:
    #X: no such object
    error:
    #X: no such object
    error:
    #X: no such object

    Ok. bye

    hi, possibly an irrelevant question in terms of usage, is there a way to install a runtime for pd or create solely executable patches (no edit mode). Just find that someone unfamiliar with the way the patch works or pd would be more comfortable being able to just see the gemwindow on startup (it could loadbang), or just be able to use things using the mouse, or keyboard, like even without seing any of the code stuff. this could be resolved also if anyone knows of a closepatch button. As in something to close the patch or pd entirely with [bang]. If any body would discuss further as conversation or has input/resolutions, then til then.

    Hi, like any ideas for putting two messages together into a new message? like lets say a message that says bird and a message that says dog. Like there a way for them to become a 'birddog' message? I've tried the arguments 'add2 bird' or 'add2 dog' but this creates a space between bird and dog. if anyone knows how to get the space gone, then hurray. furthest i've gotten was to send bang to 'add2 dog' which then sends bang to a bird message. k

    Hi, I'm bad with like t f f, t b f, t b b, and ftos wondering if anyone could write comments for the stuff subpatch of this easysampler patch, i think hardoff attached this somewhere once. The above listed areas are mainly the ones where comments would help but even clarity on the receive messages would help. Thanks a lot, simple comments should be able to do the trick. Gracias

    Hi, anyone know like how to write file names right, like directories? Like for example: Macintosh HD/Users/name/folder/file name.aif ? If this were the second argument of an open message. I could see how the spaces could be issues for PD. Furthermore, if anyone has the jist of how to specify in a patch or part of a patch, which directory or folder to save a file by simply writing the filename in a message such as "file name.aif" (instead of writing the whole directory name like Macintosh HD/Users/name/folder/file name.aif) that would be an additional bonus. I have either saved files or opened them or both by just writing the file name before but I wondered how to like choose which file they are appended with. Answers to the above 1st question and second would both be beneficial. Gracias

    Anyone have a rough idea for a patch to send and receive integers and floats to+from a lemur and pd (Jazzmutant Lemur). The one I've got functions with Max/MSP, successful results.

    If rig specifications help,

    The port I chose for the lemur to utilize with Max/MSP was 8000.
    It seems the dumpOSC object has issues with the argument 8000. The object won't create. Additionally, though the oscx seems to have loaded, the prepend send object with arguments /box/led also does not manifest itself and the _help-40h.pd patch and OSCplumbing subpatch seem to offer resolutions to using OSC though I don't know exactly the manner. I've replaced their ports with 8000, nothine at all is printing, though the lemur has been operating properly with Max/msP all the while.

    For those familiar with Max/MSP, the code to write a patch receiving lemur messages is: (and all below are objects, no messages, no duplications of objects, if listed twice, then it is same object)

    "udpreceive 8000" , outlet connected with "zl nth 1" left inlet, "zl nth 1" 's left outlet to "prepend send" inlet. "zl nth 1" 's right outlet, however was connected with "zl reg" 's right inlet. "prend send" 's left outlet connected with "t b s" 's left inlet. "t b s" 's left outlet connected with "zl reg" 's left inlet. "t b s" 's right outlet connected with "forward" 's left inlet, "zl reg" 's left oulet connected with "forward" 's left inlet.

    For udpsend, objects look like "/nameoflemurobject.value $1" with left inlet coming from float. left outlet goes to "udpsend (then ip adress) (then port number)"

    With a request of any more information, I'll reply. If anything else comes to mind, I'll submit asap. If you desire patcher files for the above listed code, i'll attach it immediately. Ok.

    dont know if ur still ther, first deal: the gemwin fullscreen: it should work, its worked on different comps for me: all u gotta do, send [fullscreen $1( to gemwin. I send a toggle to the fullscreen thing also but doesnt seem like that would matter. Dont know if you've gotten that far. It'd probably also be useful to be able to close the window. Multiple ways to do this. U may know some, to close the window, you can make a [gemmouse] object send bang to [destroy( or any key from [gemkeyboard]. not sure which gemmouse outlet, think the middle one. If ur talkin about margins, for the pics, like u can send [pix_texture] (talked bout that before) to [rectangle]. then, in the secnod and third inlets, u can write dimensions. For ur fly stuff, theres two things u can do. From [gemkeyboard], you can send bangs to increase the values of the inlets to [translateXYZ]. this will move the pictures around. like u can sorta inverse it so pressing up would make the picture go down. Another way is to use the view controls. you can send [view 0 0 0 0 0( to gemwin. if you set the third 0 to $1 and pass a numberbox to the [view 0 0 0 0 0( inlet, this will move the camera back/forward. if you set the fourth 0 to $1, this will be like a view rotate left/rt. the fifth, rotate up/down. i believe the sixth is like left/t, maybe thats the first (movement left/rt). I'm working on stuff like this, i can explain how to iron out stuff that'll make it all work easier, though eventually i could probably just post up like 2 patches and this should give u a good interface. like if u want to know how u can assign different keys throughout [gemkeyboard]. good luck

    Potentially because of a speed issue, pix_draw creates blunders. You can replace it with [pix_texture] and then send that to [square]. To change the square's size you can send a number box in its right inlet. This cleared up the upside down image effect and re-enabled rotateXYZ effects and the Z coordinate inputs of [translateXYZ]. Ok.

    I don't have all of your answers in me at this moment though i'll startup a few. The length of this response is due to its super-thorough nature. Alright, so you can make a [pix_image] object that receives a [gemhead]'s outlet in its inlet. You can add the directory as an attribute, for example [pix_image /Users/Person/Folder/Folder/Picturename.psd], or alternatively make an [open( message with the same attribute. For example: [open /Users/Person/Folder/Folder/Picturename.psd(. This [open( message's outlet goes to [pix_image]'s inlet, even if [pix_image] already has attributes. To find you picture's directory, you can first figure out how PD reads and writes various files to your system. If you save any patch, in PD's console, it will say "saved to: /Users/person/folder/folder/Patchname.pd". It helps to have folder and file names without spaces though there are many ways around this in different scenarios. If you would like some advice on matching up your 40 keys with these [pix_image] picture loaders, i will if you let me know. I can show you ways to hide your already open pictures and you can move them around with [translateXYZ]. For your upside pictures, the object [rotateXYZ] should do this, though I have not tested it. You can use [rotateXYZ] by sending [pix_image]'s outlet to its inlet and [rotateXYZ]'s outlet to [pix_draw]. For the three [rotateXYZ] inlets from right to left, you can add number boxes. Creating this layout should give you an interface similar to the one in the pd help patch. Ill respond if you have any more questions or can share anything else in similar subject areas.
