    Hello guys!

    I am working on a piece of software, and I think some of you may find it somehow useful.

    Basically, harmonySEQ it's a loop-based software MIDI sequencer, with few features that may be useful for live performances. I am not going to list all it's features here - if you are interested, you will easily find them on harmonySEQ's homepage.

    harmonySEQ works on Linux only (I'm very sorry, Windows users, maybe, if I'll find a Windows programist willing to help, a Windows version will be available), and requires ALSA and gnome libraries.

    In case you are interested, please share your opinions - any feedback is very welcome!

    You can find more information about harmonySEQ at http://harmonyseq.wordpress.com

    Yes, I do know it is not 100% puredata related, but as I wrote it to control my PD synthesizers, I thought some of you may find it useful :)

    Any sound I get from PD is full of clicks and other unpleasant, weird 'effects'. Even if I put just a noise~ and dac~ I cannot get clear sound. I'm sure it's because my computer is too slow. However, on every patch I've ever measured CPU, pd uses maximum 20% cpu, while about 5% is used by system & other apps. So I still have 75% cpu free. Anyway, pd cannot make use of this power and in the result the audio quality is quite poor. Running pd as root, in realtime mode doesn't help too much. Is there any way to simply improve pd's performance? I dunno, maybe changing bitrate or sth like that may result in better cpu usage, or maybe pd had a hardcoded limit forcing using less than f.e. 30% cpu?
    Maybe a good tip is that I get many DIO errors, about 2 times / second there is a 'A/D/A sync error'. I use pd on Ubuntu Linux, and I always connect it to Jack Server.

    Hi,

    Is it posibble to run pd without gui, without any window?

    I need it, because I found out the graphic rendering eats lots of cpu. I'd like to run "pd -jack -rt --no-gui -open /some/file" and record the track in a linux launched in text-mode. I won't use any sliders or bang buttons, I just need my patch to run in background and transform midi input to audio output.

    Yea, I know it sounds very funny, but no matter why do I need it, just: Is it possible to run puredata like that?

    Hi,
    Lets say I have a subpatch with 'graph on parent' option, and, for example, a slider and a toggle button. On the parent patch I can see them. Of course I can click on them, and the subpatch will notice it. I can change the value of slider and read it inside the subpatch. But I cannot connect any wire to this slider, toggle (or even any gui element) to let the parent patch to change it values. It there any way to connect a wire to / from a gui element that is inside a subpatch?
    Yes, I could use inlets / outlets for it, but that would really mess everything up, I just want to connect to gui element like that.

    Hello again,

    this time my problem is that each time I press and hold a key on my pc keyboard, a [key] object bangs not once, but it bangs many times very quickly. The same is with other keyboard related objects, they all doesn't work properly when I hold a key.
    I use pd-extended 0.40.3 on Ubuntu 8.10, if it matters.

    Any help is welcome:)

    Hello again,

    I use both Windows 2000 and Ubuntu 8.10. I have installed pd 0.40.3 on both. They both work well, but I found it strange when I open on Ubuntu a Puredata file I created on Windows, it sounds as it should, but it doesn't look good. Everything is messed up, objects overlay each other, their font is extremely big, I cannot found myself in this. When I return to Windows, everything is back okay.
    I reckon it happens because the objects are drawn on Ubuntu and on Windows in different way. Is there any way to fix it so I can work on my compositions both on Ubuntu and Windows?

    hello, i've just found a strange issue.
    Puredata crashes every time I add a new audio object (i mean a object starting with '~'). I can open existing files, I can add any other objects, and it all works well, but I cannot do anything new because of this strange bug.
    I use pd-extended 0.40.3 for Windows.
    What's wrong?

    Hello again!

    I have just released harmonySEQ 0.15, so if you are interested, be sure to fetch the new version. In some cases it may integrate better with PD, as it has now a basic OSC support. You can check the full changelog on the website, if you want to.

    Cheers!

    Very good guide to pitch shifting is available here: http://crca.ucsd.edu/~msp/techniques/latest/book-html/node115.html
    However, it may be difficult to understand, it you are new to digital sound processing.

    @ClaudiusMaximus
    Thanks a lot, I wonder why I couldn't find it as it is mentioned in 'pd' usage.

    @ZombieControl
    I guess the graphics are recalculated from scratch in each dsp loop. Well, if I am right, it's a giant performance issue.

    @hardoff
    Yes, it does send messages, I've already checked it. What's more, the only way I found to turn audio processing on was to put a [loadbang] ---> [; pd dsp 1( on a patch I open, as you cannot control anything in this mode.

    ========================
    And one more question: I cannot manage to use alsa-midi from command line.
    I use:
    pd -jack -alsamidi -nogui -open /some/file
    but I still cannot see puredata in Jack Control 'Connections' window.

    How do I start alsa-midi (same as if I chose menu Media->ALSA-MIDI and left default settings) when running pd from command line and w/o gui? (and using Jack)
