greetings to all you mad wonderful people.
i can do most things with puredata under linux (ubuntu) but i cannot for the life of me get an audio output to correspond with my midi in.
I press a key, the midi tester tells me which key, and how loud, but not a crackle from my speakers, and yet I know full well that the audio works just fine.
I use alsa and connect up with jack.
Can anyone point me to the road called sanity?
Best wishes to all.

thanks for the response, and hello to you Maelstorm.
Yes I appreciate what you say, MIDI notes are data which are converted into a stream of bits which are processed into pcm/analog audio signals.
What I meant is: that although midi data is present (according to the midi/audio tester), and although my sound card emits a tone via (audio) tester, I have no sound whatever when I press a key.
If I construct your example, am I to assume that my keyboard midi data will be converted into audio at the output of my sound card?
It looks to me that your midi data is converted into frequency control data which controls the frequency of an oscillator. Do I require a pcm module?
best regards
