I have a line 6 X3 live usb device I have been using as an asio sound card with Reaper for some time now. Back in the '90s I had been using Max and thought I'd give pd a try, naturally expecting to use the same device as my sound card. I keep getting the error:
C:\Program Files (x86)\pd\bin>pd -listdev -r 44100 -pa -audioindev 4 -audiooutde
v 5 -inchannels 8 -outchannels 2
Error number -9997 opening portaudio stream
Error message: Invalid sample rate
closing audio...
closing MIDI...
... done. This is on Windows 7 64 bit. The sample rate is set to 44100 24bit in the windows control panel. I have tried everything from 24000 to 96000 with no joy. It does seem to recognize some things about my card because if I go over the 8 inputs, the message changes to an error about the number inputs.
Any suggestions about what to try next?

One other thing I find interesting. A month or two ago, I had compiled Audacity to enable the ASIO interface. This is also done with portaudio in Audacity. And it works just fine.
At this point it seems like a pd thing of some sort.

Any reason why you're launching Pd from the command line? Are you able to just open Pd and set the device in the Audio Settings dialog?
Using the normal tool, I would fill in the options, and then just see that the asio had *not* been set as my audio interface, but no reason why. So, I wanted to use the -listdev option to see what the device numbers were. Launching normally, all I could see was the name of the interface. Sometimes the line 6 was showing and sometimes not.
Also, I wasn't seeing the port audio error message in the console but was from the command line, so it turned out to be an important clue as to what was going on.
