What's the most appropriate way to pass an external value into a puredata patch (ultimately in to a number box)?
Thanks

I ran into a problem with no-gui and /dev/dsp error. It' seems similar to the one in the forum post:
http://puredata.hurleur.com/sujet-4548-simple-delayeffect-delread-delwrite-doesn-work-nogui
but the advice there doesn't resolve my issue.
I have a patch running in gui mode but in non-gui mode there are these errors:
pd -nogui -oss -open ../patches/myPatch.pd
/dev/dsp (read/write): Device or resource busy
(now will try write-only...)
/dev/dsp (writeonly): Device or resource busy
/dev/dsp (readonly): Device or resource busy

So, I just read the value from a file. I thought there might be some other way.

Doh, solved - [delay 1000] has to be put _before [; pd dsp 1;(
- I had it in front of [pd open ... ]
