    Hi, guys!

I'm trying to work on some binaural spacialization. And I'm aware there's already some externals like vbap~ or space~, but they don't quite work for me. However I came across the CW_binaural~ which completely kicks ass. But I'm trying to work this on myself without any use of externals.

So, theory dictates that convolution of any sound with an HRIR converts the sound as if it was being heard from the HRIR source location. But I'm not getting it completely right. btw, im using the HRIR's from the listen database (http://recherche.ircam.fr/equipes/salles/listen/download.html)

let's say i've got an impulse response taken at the right side 45 degress front, after convolution however the left ear sounds with almost the same amplitude (a bit diminished, though). It's true, the left ear is catching some of the right side burst, but it's not quite relating to it's REAL amplitude.

I attach an image of the patch. The fft convolution is based on the Johaness book patch.

Does anyone has any comments on this?

    Hello, everyone!

This is my first query on the forum. I'm having trouble understanding cpole~ and czero~. There doesn't seem to be much information on those objects and I can't make much out of the help files and less so of Miller's book.

I've seen from several patches that they are oftenly used on resonator units. But I'm wondering if anyone could explain how these work and what practical uses do they have? Or how are they related?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi, Katja.

I guess I'll have to keep on reading.
Naturally, I barely have an understanding on convolution, let alone filters. It's too goddamn difficult for me. I suck at all that math and complex realm stuff.

I'll have to isolate myself for like two months in order to put all that under my belt :p

Thanks for the tip, Katja. I've been reading your page, it's very helpful. You do some amazing things.

oh rats.. I'm afraid I must have terrible hearing. But.., I'm beginning to think it sounds as it probably should. I'm comparing the amplitudes in Audacity and it makes sense. shame on me...

    Hi, katjav

sure thing, I include some test HRIR.

Maelstorm, thank you so much for the tutorial.
It has made a lot of things clearer now. you rock, sir.

    Hey, Maelstorm!
    Thanks for the reply.

I've been taking my time to understand filter design. But i'ts still quite over my head. I fortunately came across your library and it's been helpful at least to give me an idea of a PD implementation.

But i've got a few questions:

The use of czero~ and cpole~ is meant to build the difference equation?

    I mean, we got y[n] = b0*x[n] + b1*x[n-1] + b2*x[n-2] - a1*y[n-1] - a2*y[n-2]

where b0*x[n] is the original input.
b1*x[n-1] is the first zero location.
b2*x[n-2] the second czero~ and so on. where a1*y[n-1] - a2*y[n-2] is the first and second pole respectively. am I right on this?

    Regards.
