long story short, one aspect of a patch I'm trying to develop requires being able to pause, playback, and loop multiple streaming files (or tables) in quick succession. For example: pause playback of file #1, file #2 automatically and immediately starts. . .pause playback of file #2, file #3 automatically and immediately starts . . . random event occurs, file #3 is paused and file #1 begins playback from where it was last paused, so forth.

Files are numerous and long. There are about a dozen and they are 5 to 45 minutes a piece. This amounts to huge uncompressed audio files, so a configuration involving [tabread4~] (which enables the development of refined playback controls, but only works well for short loops) won't work, and [readsf~] won't either, because i need to be able to pause and resume playback.

    Any suggests?
    Thanks!

please see attached. Is there a smarter / more efficient way to do this? I seam to have a propensity to the [del] object . . .

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    I'm new to pd.

I can't seem to figure out how to make a specific atom 'ramp' to a max value over a given time interval (I realize the [line] object does exactly this but read on--) AND THEN ramp back down to its original value AND THEN ramp back to max value and so forth, back and forth ad infinitum until the process is paused. Every solution I can think up produces a stack overflow.

In the end, I would like a patch that fades back and forth between the left and right channel on the [dac~] either at random ramping velocities or at one that I set.

Still figuring this dookie out; don't get me wrong, it's a lot of fun and totally addictive.

    Thanks!

Oh wow, starting to get a bit beyond my league, so very informative. Far more efficient and controllable than my clunky example. the "resolution" control is a nice touch. Thanks again.

Thanks, mod. I have figured something out-- the only problem is that you can't pause it mid ramp. Either way, it produces the osculating cross-fade with out creating a stack overflow. the trick is the second sequential [delay] object. I've attached the example.

any suggestions or work-arounds to create a what would be in effect a [line] object that can be paused or accelerated in real-time?

    Thanks again!
