Ah, and I solved it. For me, I had to set the repack size. In nestor's patch, it was set to 22, but it wasn't clear to me if that did anything (and nestor even made a note that it didn't matter). I was expecting mostly 3 digit numbers in addition to the delimiter, so I set the repack size to 4 and that seems to have solved my problems.

zonxs7, did you ever figure anything out for numbers 10 and higher?
