I'm a computer programmer and musician, and I am interested in PD. But before I get started, I want to make sure if it can do what I have in mind.

I'd like to create some sort of cross between a step sequencer and a MIDI arpeggiator. Basically, you have 16 steps, and for each step you enter a number. So let's assume I entered 1 1 2 0 1 3 5 etc.

The patch would receive MIDI notes. Let's assume at a certain point it receives the notes C, E and G (C chord). At the first step, it would play C (the first note in the chord). At the second step it would play the same. For the third step it would play the E, and for the fourth step it wouldn't play anything (0=rest). At that point, the received notes change to A C E (A minor), and it would play the A, then the E, and then the C (5 % 3 = 2).

The next step would be to allow for the possibility to have different banks.

I am planning to use this with a host (ableton) and would want it to be synched.

Is such a thing possible with PD? Would it be very hard to accomplish?
