Thought it may have been a sample rate. Mine was at 96 kHz. Opened it in quicktime and exported it to 41 kHz. Still same thing happening.
For now I conceed to pd.

This is why I love Pd. Before my dinner all was well apart from the record bit. Your recorded.wav was just empty but for the right amount of time. So i WENT FOR DINNER.

i come back re-open it and now I cant even load a file!!! Now it just says no method for 'filename'. I am coying directly from the file not re-writing it.
So I deleted the whole folder, samples and all and re-downloaded it frash. Your voice.wav auto loads fine.. In fact Ive been listening to it on and off for an hour now

And in the process of writing this I've had another go at the patch AND THE RECORD FUNCTION NOW WORKS REALLY WELL!!!!

Now I just need to fix the load a sound thingy.

Yea that's the one alright (every time you somehow hit the nail square on the head) Im having a bit of trouble recording my 'driving' of the car to a .wav. ALWAYS had trouble with that part though so nothing new there!! :)

Also readsf~ keeps giving me 'no such file or directory' even though the file exists and playsback. Ive even put the audio file in the same folder as the pd patch.

Pd is also running REALLY slugishly which doesnt help. Everything else is working as normal. Weird.

They aren't what I had in my mind really. I'm using readsf~ to read a .wav file. Once thats playing back I wanna make a slider that can control both speed AND pitch. I'm working on that at the moment.

How can I record that performance?

thanks man. Im a bit on the fence really. I wanna learn the ins and out of Pd. I did a module in it last year. Im just real realy slow on Pd, so those premades might just do the trick. I just need to combine them all (wav in, speed and pitch control, record and export wav.)

I may be back with a mock up soon.

    Howdy all.

Im working on something at the moment and I think PD is the solve to my problem.
Im designing sounds for electric cars. Im doing that part in Logic, im more efficient there. I wanna make a dozen or so engine sounds and put them in a soundscape.

To bring them to life I will need to control the pitch and speed to be able to 'drive' them. Some panning and fake doppler effects and I should be able to create an artificial future street.

create a sound in Logic- bring it into PD- 'perform' it- export it as a wav- import that to Logic and arrange.

    So my Pd shopping list is ;

    Soundfiler~ - to import a .wav.
soundtouch~ to control pitch (dunno if this is the write one)
recfiler~ (forget the proper name of this one)

    A pitch and speed controller.

Any advice would be much appreciated on this as my Pd skills are limited!!

    Thanks for reading.

Thanks for the advice. I reduced the sig~ of each 'cylinder' to 0.8 and that seems to have narrowed the blank gap in the sound somewhat. I will explore some more a little bit later, What was immediately obvious to me is how the wave goes right off the oscilloscope but the db meter still registers sound.

I have another problem which has come to light.

Right now Im trying to figure out how to record a sequence with one synth and play over it with another. i have the number pad set up as a hid. (12 note tempered scale. My ideas are always beyond my grasp.

Im guessing an array will be used to store the first sequence. What would be cool would be to play over that and when ya find a bit ya like hit rec and hear the 2 playback.

I'll keep digging but I might start another topic.

    Here's a peek.

    Thanks for the reply.
Do they have to be two completely separate patches? I just tried it again and the video is now making this constant crackling sound.
I am indeed using Pd extended, I'll have a look at your abstractions link thanks.

In response to the slider issue that happens with or without the video. Copy and paste it into a patch on its own and you'll see what I mean. Its almost quite a convincing engine sound (from Farnell book, that I tweaked) . When you get to a certain spot high in the 'rev range' it crackles and dies for a bit then re-appears higher up.
    Any ideas?

    Hi all, hows it going?
I have been working through Hernandez's video on using GEM to display a video. My idea is to have a video with no sound, but sound comes from a patch that the user can control to match up with the video.

    1. The video does not always load (both .mp4 and .mov work). It seems to work fine the first time after opening patch but not so much after that.
--- Is there a way to have better transport control (play, rewind etc) I have a toggle set up which works as a play pause button. But rewind, or back to start would be great.

    2. The slider I have set up to control the sound source works well, but at a certain point it crackles and then stops outputting sound, only to return again. in short, there's a dead spot at a certain frequency and I've no idea how to fix it. Later I will be assigning control to the mouse wheel.

Patch attached above (any clip on your computer should work, it doesn't have to be in same folder)

    Thats the one!
Thanks so much for your help. If I could buy you a drink I would! Its was a great learning process, figuring out and understanding the differences between tweaked patches.

I can see Pd being a brilliant tool to have, there seems to be a massively steep learning curve is all.

    Nah same thing.

    However,
Id say over 80% of the time its only one off. For example random creates 4X6. So user goes to the sliders and puts in 4X6, gets same numerical answer but colours dont match. If user puts in 5X6 the colours match. Does that make sense?

    D'OH! Never attached the patch!
    Assignment 1 all 12 colours.pd

I thought of the multiple files open already, closed Pd, and opened JUST the one I'm working on. Still there.

It's the random button on the test part . That's all.

What I dont understand is the the learn subpatch and the test subpatch are the exact same. The learn subpatch works as supposed to.

When you hit the bang it should give the a sum (7x12) and its corresponding colour. It doesn't right now. However if the user inputs the (7x12)themselves it does display the corresponding colour.

    Odd.

    Any thoughts?

I added the rest of the colours to the patch. Its pretty much done. One last problem.
The colour box under the 'test yourself' section is acting up. W

Thanks for that, I'll take a look now. I'm using a macboo pro 13" 2013 (possibly 2012), running mavericks.

    Im using Pd extended.

    Hope that helps.
