If you want 64bit you could also search for pd-l2ork. It's a very nice version and it's based on 0.42.5. It has cool things like chord inspector, wiimote abs, standalone window for console, runs fast. For 64bits, it's this http://l2ork.music.vt.edu/data/pd/Pd-l2ork-full-x86_64-20120802.tar.bz2 . Pd-l2ork now needs tkpng. I don't know if ubuntu 12.04 has it(i use Precise Puppy Linux(compatible with .deb binaries)) , if it doesn't, search it in the package manager.
It's a tarball, extract it and run the usual sudo make install. Run it with pd-l2ork.
