I'm just starting with pure data, I'm following the flossmanual, and arrived to [hid] (wich's actually [hidin] I guess). The manual covers how to map a genius joystick that I don't own, but, I have a lovely midi controller called Orbit, from Numark. I've tried to follow the indications and route abs__x abs_y etc, but no values are comming from the controller. The question is:

How can I actually "see" wich kind of values I'm able to expect from the Orbit controller, in order to, then, write a patch in which I get them for useful purposes? Any suggestions?

i think hidin is the completely wrong object. i guess that Orbit is like any other midi controler and you will get values with the ctlin an notein objects, if you have selected it in the midi options of pd

Thanks a lot for the feedback! Both are very useful. I've tried with [ctlin] and Orbit started to spit its numbers. Pretty nice.
