I updated to a new Macbook Pro running Mavericks, and now the "Put" menu is completely grayed out. I'll upload a photo, not quite sure what could be causing this. I haven't been able to find other posts on this topic.

Hi, welcome to Pd and to this forum,

In order to program in Pd, you have first to create a blank canvas (click File then New, or alternatively command + N). When this blank canvas appears, you will be able to create objects.

The window you see in the image above is Pd's main window, which also will remain opened. It's purpose is to display messages to the user, such as error and warning messages, output information by the object [print], information about loaded libraries, and so on.
