I've come up against a problem that I can't get my head around. I'm making a 16 step drum sequencer which should be working fine. The problem is that noteout will only send one midi note at a time, meaning that if I have hi hats on 16th notes no other drums will sound. I made a simple chord patch and had the same problem. Is this a bug with noteout? Shouldn't I be able to send a number of midi messages simultaneously?Drums.pd

I tested your patch and I could hear simultaneous sounds without any problems. Could you please share your simple chord patch? Also, give it a try on this simple patch here: midi.pd Can you hear the simultaneous notes in both cases (single channel and multichannel)?

Thank you very much for your response. I tested the patch you posted and again only a single note will play at any one time. The same when I sent a chord on separate midi channels. Very puzzling. It mustn't be the patch that is the problem. I've also tried sending midi to ableton via iac bus, and also sending midi directly out of pure data through a sound card and to a hardware drum machine. I had the same issue in both cases, which suggests it isn't a fault outside pd. Any further thoughts of how to tackle this?

I've also tried vanilla and pd extended and it is the same with both.

Indeed this doesn't look like a pd problem then. Which OS are you using?

I'm using OS10.9.4. Are there any settings you think might be at fault?

Hmm, I am so sorry but I am not familiar at all with Mac computers... I have no idea how to configure MIDI in your system. But it looks like your system is outputting MIDI as mono, which is really strange.

Here is another test you can do, please download this file and play it using any audio player that supports MIDI: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/51/Just_major_triad_on_C.mid

Can you hear the chord or do you hear a single pitch? If you have problems with this file as well in a third program, then it looks like you have some general configuration problem with your MIDI playback. Probably the best way to solve it would be to ask about it in some Apple forum or to wait until some Mac user stumbles on this post.

I jut tried sending a midi pattern out of ableton to an external drum machine and I have the same issue. It must be a MIDI setup problem on my computer. Does anyone have any idea about this?
