I was wondering if anyone has a patch they would be willing to share with me, which would enable me to control the playback speed of an audio file with the speed at which the mouse is being clicked i.e. faster succession of clicks would mean faster playback and vice versa. Also, i would like the audio file to maintain the original pitch. Any help with this would be appreciated.

There's an infinite amount of info on sampling with speed and pitch control (Look for the book / e-book Programming Electronic Music in Pure Data). One way to click-for-speed might be:

You can also use [timer] and some others, don't think it should matter too much.

pitch independent playback is far from trivial, which is why it took so long for programs like ableton live to appear on the market.

I've never seen a decent implementation of it in pd. There are some promising open source things like aubio, which look like they should work, and there was even an attempt to make aubio as a pd external, but it never worked for me.

also, even just playing back long sound files (such as songs) with variable pitch is a hassle to do in pd. You either need to load the whole song into arrays first, and then read it back with [tabread4~], or else load sections of the song into buffer arrays, and then read those back using [tabread4~] .
I dunno though, there may be some external objects which do this.
