Dear PD Community.

I am running PD-Extended 43.3. I have also tried 43.1. I installed them from .deb because my compile kept failing at the OSC objects. (solutions I could find did not appear to work)

The .deb works well despite being targeted at Raspbi ARM. I can run my patches nicely, I can hear them when I use the HDMI hardware out, it plays through the speakers on my screen nicely.

I can test the sunxi codec hardware output with VLC, this sounds very nice, but when I try the same with PD, it refuses to work.

Due to my lack of experience with Linux in general, I have no idea where to start problem solving. I assume it is most likely PD related, as VLC can select both destinations happily.

Should I go back to trying to compile it myself? Can anyone suggest bits of manual to read, ideas to pursue, or anything else to consider?

did you try "Pd -alsa" ?
There's a lot of options that can be passed to pd at startup : http://puredata.info/docs/faq/commandline.

I never got the input to work, but in output it is ok.

I personally use jackd (jack audio, http://jackaudio.org/), but it is buggy on arm devices, and you can find a patched version in Autostatic's repository (see http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php/topic,958.msg5885.html?PHPSESSID=6oj96k1hjntkpjmo4urub98ee1#msg5885 ).

Not sure this jackd will work on a "generic kernel", though.
You'll find an already rt patched distro on the same repository, which I use and it is very nice (he patched the audio driver as well, as it had severe built-in limitations). But this is maybe a bit complicated for a linux beginner, as this is a command-line distro, and you'll need to install desktop by yourself, etc...
... but at the end I managed compiling pd-extended on it and it gives me plenty of joy, with an external usb card, though.

I will report back with direct instructions on how to setup this hardware with PD. (hopefully)

I am now running 43.4 with your suggested patched jack2, It defaulted to the mini-jack out! No further drama required.
