Hi folks,

Making a sequencer. Everything was going fine until suddenly this problem showed up, and I'm not exactly sure when or how, but now it is persistent.

I have cut out nearly everything in the patch, just to show you the bare problem.

I have PD going through IAC bus to Massive (also tried with other external synths), but MIDI note 52 and 53 sound the same. I have noticed this occurring with other notes too that are a semitone apart, like 57 and 58 sometimes.

Anyway, if I manually put these numbers in instead of the sequencer, the external synth can suddenly play the two independent notes, but not if the sequencer sends the notes.

Sending these MIDI notes to a PD oscillator works just fine.

Any idea? This realllllly has me stumped... File as attached. Cheers lads!

This is one of those not-so-obvious issues that can pop up in Pd. It looks to me like the problem comes from the fact that your array does not hold integers, and you are using

• to convert them to integers. While Pd may print your results as integers, there is always a possibility that they will be ever-so-slightly off in the 32-bit float representation of them. To ensure that they are, in fact, the exact integer you are looking for, make sure to run it through _.

Sure enough, if you put _after

• , you'll just see 52 over and over. And [noteout], when converting to 7-bit MIDI note, will always round down. It looks like what is printing as 53 is actually just barely less than 53.

To round the results to what you want, do this:
