I currently have a patch with

[adc~]->[fiddle~ 4096]->[34.04]->

Which works great for detecting the pitch. I know I have to use threshold~ and spigot to define that I only want the pitch when the input is above a certain volume. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Strangely enough, yesterday I decided to go back to my old "midifying" patch, which uses fiddle (or Katjav's [helmholtz~]) for pitch detection, with the intention of using Katjav's quadrature compander (http://www.katjaas.nl/compander/compander.html) in the input stage. This was supposed to help managing input volume sensibility problems. And it seems to help, the qcompander help patch provides some interesting presets. Anyway I use to play around with the "minpower" parameter inside Pd, and also used an external logic test on [env~] output to gate signal.
I decided the latter was not very useful within my context since the sigmund is able to report notes (use [fiddle~] with "notes pitch" options and use these inlets to trig final pitch report.

Does it makes sense to you ?

Thank you for mentioning [threshold~], I didn't know it and could be useful for debouncing in order to remove some false triggering out of my midi stream.

I will post a patch about this in the next days.

here a midifier workbench to play with settings in order to find the best set for a given source.

It's based on a [sigmund~] pitch and note onset, with an input [qompander~] object.
The starting point is getting noise ground level, and then deciding how much db's you add to it to send an noteoff message (intended for live mic input, but a test file structure is provided). This calibrating operation is done letting the microphone connected without playing or singing anything for 1s after clicking the bang button.
The patch outputs a midi stream that can be connected to any synth, but a simple visualisation is provided. Midi stream is monophonic thanks to lifesaver [poly 1 1] object.

I read [sigmund~] help, but I weren't very happy with the sensitivity of some arguments. A midi gate can be switched on, to avoid note onset messages beeing taken into accound if below a ceiling dB value.

Further midi filtering should be implemented in order to limit "re-triggering". (not even sure it works).
