Hi, hope someone can help.

Using [msgfile], I'm trying to find a country name in a textfile,
and I wish to receive a number stored next to it (or even the line number could help).

=> 13 India; 14 Brazil; 15 Mexico; ...

I'm presently using [msgfile] + [find $1( but it doesn't seems to work for this purpose.

Should it be done with an other object ?
I'm sure it's pretty simple, but couldn't figure out the right trick. Can anyone help?

Hi,

You need to always rewind the [msgfile] object before searching, since search works only from the current position on (so bang a message [rewind( before every search). Also, search only looks for strings from the beginning of a line. So if you have a file such as:

13 India;
14 Brazil;
15 Mexico;

then you will get nothing by banging [find Brazil( - since no line starts with Brazil. But you can use an * as a place holder for anything. So banging [find * Brazil( should work now.
