I have made some 'expr' objects that are quite long. When I try to delete or cut them (cmd-X) from my patch I get a crash... If I try and edit them I get the same.

At the moment I have hidden them in the corner somewhere to put them out of the way... does PD not like expression objects that too long?

I have read somewhere that having a lot of nested if() statements in [expr] can cause problems, so maybe it's because of the multiple expressions.

It would probably be easier in your case (and less typing) to just do this:

There is a library called list-abs that has an abstraction called [list-tabdump] that does the same thing. The library itself is vanilla friendly, but since it's vanilla it can be a little slower than externals. You can get it here:

I have the same problem with expression crash. I was trying to clean a patch, removing the not useful stuff and get this crash. Please, do you have a solution for cleaning the patch. Did you tried to edit in text mode, deleting the line codes corresponding to the exression object? Thanks !

@headache Hi and welcome to this forum!

Maybe it would be better if you create a new thread instead of replying to such an old one, particularly if your problem is not the exact the same one.

But as for your problem, when you do something to your patch (and save it) which makes Pd crash (and so you can't really edit it in Pd) the best solution is to open your .pd file as text with any text editor (e.g. Notepad on Windows, Gedit on Linux, etc.) and correct the patch manually. I would just suggest that, if possible, that you don't remove any objects in the text editor because you may mess up all your patch cords (Pd format is a bit idiosyncratic when it comes to the notation of cords) so rather clear up the messy arguments or values that are causing the crash or substitute the problematic object by another one with the same number of inlets and outlets. This is all a bit of a hack, but can save your patch.
