Hello. I am trying to install externals and other libraries, based on the instructions at the http://puredata.info/docs/faq/how-do-i-install-externals-and-help-files
site. This site, and several others explain that I need to locate the Global "/Library/Pd" folder and the user-specific folder User-specific "~/Library/Pd". I have tried, including enabling view of hidden folders via the terminal, and I still cannot locate these folders.

For some time i have been able to get around this by creating a new "externals" folder and adding it to the pd startup, which worked for the mtlib and others, but this won't work for others.

The externals/libraries i'm trying to install are ambilib, and soundhack (which requires the files be added to the "pd/extra" folder, which i also cannot locate.

I am using MAC OSX Lion, pd-extended 42.5

Can someone please help me out with this issue?

Not sure if you are aware (I didn't realize this for a while) but on OSX, if a path starts with "/", it means it starts from the HD. If it starts with"~", it means your home folder.

I haven't upgraded to Lion (I'm still on Leopard) so I don't know if it's changed, but I doubt it. You should be able to find them from Finder. I'd recommend going with "/Library/Pd". I've just found it to be more reliable. If the Pd folder doesn't exist in /Library, maybe just try creating it and see what happens.

/extra is in the Pd-extended.app package. You have to Ctrl+click and select "Show Package Contents" to find it (it's actually Contents/Resources/extra). But if you can get away with putting it in /Library/Pd, it would be better, because you won't have to reinstall it when upgrading to a newer version of Pd-extended. I haven't used either of those libraries, though.

great, thanks so much! everything except for the ambilib~ install worked, including creating the extra folder in the pd-extended package folder.

Any thoughts on why pd can't load the ambilib~ from it's startup binaries?
