i'm running Ubuntu in virtual box on an 64bit win 7. Ubuntu works just fine and all the systemsounds, youtube videos in firefox and mp3's in a media player are playbacked without any problems. But the audio of PD is a big problem. with alsa i've got endless i/o errors and jack isn't working at all.

have anyone collected some experiences with pd in a virtual box on windows?

PD works better when it has low latency access to the sound hardware...which I don't think it's going to get running in VirtualBox. That said, try checking your audio settings under Media -> Audio Settings and raise the delay(msec) up to 1000 and see if that helps the audio. Jack won't work cause it can't speak directly with the audio hardware through ALSA, the Windows OS as that locked up and Ubuntu/ALSA/JACK can only send audio through the emulated hardware.

I did recall people trying to workaround this by giving VirtualBox exclusive access to a USB/Firewire audio interface and then using that audio device for Ubuntu running inside the VirtualBox - though I'm not sure what came of it. I would check the VirtualBox forums.

i checked the firewire support for virtual box. there is no firewire support planed. what a shame.

Hello, I had the same problems with VMWare player (virtualizing pd on Ubuntu as guest on Windows Vista):
mp3, system sounds are OK but even the simple sine oscillator is getting audio dropouts.
My (personal) feeling is that since pd (and similar) are CPU intensive also in native OS,
virtualization is a bit overkilling for real-time audio apps.

Can you post your Jack settings/pd settings? what latency is Jack running at?
Did you have to do any special tweaks? or did Ubuntu studio work "out of the box"?

I have also faced the same issue with my system and I have searched a lot on the Internet to get it solved, and epson error code 0xf3 finally resolve the error.
