I'm quite new to PD but ive got a wav file that ive imported using PD and i have 'freeverb connected to it, with different object boxes, wet, dry and room size connected to it to alter the sound. How would I go about connecting my UC-33e board to PD so that I can control the amount of reverb and dry sound with the faders?

Ive tried using ctlin and connecting different inlets and outlets together but nothing seems to work. Do I have to change settings on the controller board or anything?

Any help would be appreciated..

Hi Nick,

Welcome to PD and the forum. This topic should be under "Technical Issues"

Nevertheless, if you've had success with changing freeverb parameters, that means you're using message boxes - freeverb is an object, it is controlled with messages.

Now, make a [ctlin] object.

Connect a number box to each outlet.

If it's working, you'll get three numbers whenever you move a knob or a slider: the CC value (0-127), the CC number (which knob it is) and the MIDI Channel # (that is set on the device itself.)

To isolate a controller you provide [ctlin] with args:

[ctlin 12 1] would mean that the outlet will only produce the value of the CC#12 on Channel#1.

If you're not getting values from [ctlin] then you need to mess with your MIDI settings until it works. What kind of computer are you on?

Oh, and most importantly: with any object, right-click, HELP!

Firstly I am using Windows 7 on a PC - hopefully thats not a problem,

Don't seem to be getting any variation in the number boxes unfortunately atm. I've set the input to the UC-33e and tried playing around but still nothing, even when i try testing the midi under the tab 'test audio and midi' , however, I am getting a warning saying that 'Midi input is dangerous in microsoft windows', you know anything about that?

Don't worry about that. That message has been there for a while, but everything seems to work fine. I think the developers just haven't taken it out because they don't use Windows.

Are you able to try it with another MIDI controller?

noo - just got the one controller - im trying to play around with the settings on the controller atm - see if something isnt set right on there or something,

It doesn't say that it's supported on Windows 7. Have you tried it with other software?

I have a feeling it could be windows 7 - just tried it on my laptop with xp and it works... Trying to figure out how to assign each channel to a different effect -

stupid q, apologies - but wat is the controller number?

In the end, i want fader one to control the wet sound of reverb, and channel 2 to change the dry sound etc...

You might want to dig around M-Audio's site for an updated driver. I had to do that a few months back with a Keystation I picked up at a garage sale. I seem to remember there were updated drivers for some fairly old gear.

There are several types of MIDI messages, one of them Channel Control (or cc) messages. Each message has a controller number, a value, and a channel. The controller number for input refers to the fader, knob, button, or whatever on your device. Each one should have a different controller number, and the value is, of course, the position of that fader, knob, etc.

You should be able to assign whatever controller number you want to each control via the UC-33e, but there are likely default parameters and presets as well. If you just make a [ctlin] and attach number boxes to the outlets, you'll get the value, controller number, and channel. You can use that to determine what each control's controller number is set to.

You might want to look around online for some MIDI tutorials to get a better understanding of MIDI messages.

Yeah, with the number boxes, the one that changes when you twiddle the knob is the value, the one that changes when you change knobs is the CC (continuous controller) #, and the one that doesn't change (most likely) is the MIDI Channel that you are transmitting. Use the CC# and Midi Channel number as arguments [ctlin 1 1] to isolate each knob. Of course, the possibilities are endless which is why I am browsing this forum instead of making another patch that I'll find useless one week from now.

Something else - I am rewriting a patch to get my SM57 mic into it to have a constant live input, the last one was giving out sooo much noise, wasnt quite sure what was going on, so am starting again,
I figured i'll just need just one adc input, maybe an env? Also would i need an osc~ in it? cause i did in the last one, maybe that was what was making it go wrong!?

Any suggestions for easiest way to design the live input?

Depends on what you want to use the input for. If you want the overall "loudness" to control some parameter in your setup, then [adc~] and [env~] might work fine.

ok yeh sorry - forgot bout that. i want to be able to effect the live input (of a trumpet) with revereration and delay...if that changes anything?

[freeverb~] and [delwrite~]/[vd~] are good places to start.

yeh, ive got the effects working with a wav file, but i am wanting to create a live input patch to recognise a microphone input, not sure how to make that patch

[adc~] is all you need to get the live input.
