Is there a way to stop the line object mid-process and resume with a message/bang?

Example:

{0, 1000 4000} ------> line

Let's say I want to stop this at "500" with 2 seconds elapsed, then continue at 500 for another 2 seconds to hit 1000. NOT go from 500 to 1000 in another 4 seconds.

or make a manual line with a counter:

in this case, you get a bang every 10 milliseconds (by default, line only gives an output every 20 ms anyway). if you are counting up 0.01 every 10ms, you get from 0->1 in 1 second. just scale this value with simple addition and multiplication to make any line value you want.

then, if you want to pause it, just turn off the metro

The short and long solution! Thanks for bringing up the 20ms resolution issue.

Attached is the long solution with the expr to calculate the new time. The construction can probably be simplified but I think it works!
