I have made a clonewheel organ. I have based my design as far as possible on information I found on the internet.

To me it is usable (at least when there is no real organ nearby to compare with) and anyone is free to use it as is.

But, it doesnt really compare with the real thing, even though I never had the pleasure to laid my hands on one.

Any suggestions on improvements are very welcome!

Things included in my simulation:

• tonewheel frequencies rather than the normal note frequencies
• percussion effect
• keyclick (I do think its very good though)
• vibrato and chorus scanner (found very little info on this - and it sucks!)
• rotary speaker emulation
• ability to store 4 presets

Things I know it is lacking:

• tonewheel waveform is simplified to a sinewave
• crosstalk (have not found any good info on this)

I have made a input controller that fit my midi-gear to get quick access to the drawbars, presets, overdrive and the leslie. I could recommend anyone that want to use it to make such a thing themselves. Use the command inlet for each abstraction to control it.

It should work with pd-extended.

Based on all the comments and suggestions I got in this thread I have been able to improve my organ pretty much (irony). Especially the leslie had some major bugs. I also made a somewhat desent vibrato/chorus scanner.

I like my improved leslie speaker. I emulate sound in 3 different angles and use some short delay lines to emulate sound bouncing within the leslie cabinet. In the end I only tap out sound from two of those angles for left and right channel.

First, I made a crossover and two separate rotating speakers for bass and treble with slightly different speeds. But it didn't added anything good so I skipped it.

I have now had my first actual gig using the organ- yeah!

If you try it out - dont forget to turn on the leslie rotation, there is where the feeling comes in.

[OT] when I use freeverb it works fine until I stop playing for like 10 seconds or longer and then continue to play it gets terrible! My midi-keypresses lag and the sound lag and it just sounds terrible and it takes a few seconds for it to catch up...

I'm (mostly) running pd on linux.

[freeverb~] has denormal issues, which means it begins to eat up cpu when it has to deal with extremely small numbers. If you send really quiet noise through it, like 1 dB in Pd world (-99 dB everywhere else), you can prevent that from happening.

@Maelstorm Thank you, it seems to work (and I can't hear the 1dB noise).

I will try to make a new attempt on a leslie with two rotors and need a good crossover filter.

Any suggestions?

I made a little patch to measure the filter response for different frequencies to analyze my attempt on a crossover filter.

I tried to come up with two filters that splits the audio at some crossover frequency that under addition is pretty linear.

I came up with something (almost) decent, but it feels like there must be an easier way to do this...

Hi i am looking to improve my leslie emulator for a university project. i cant seem to get yours to work though? has it been built in extended? i am loving the whole PD thing and just want to get better at it!

Haha, you must be like the fourth person here asking for help on their Leslie speaker project. What is this uni teaching you guys?

should one of us just post a leslie patch so that they all submit a copy of it?

ive got the patch working but when i run a hammond through it it losses its depth, the uni want us to experience the whole analogue patch experience i think its a good thing, hey i even went out and purchased a copy of loadbang and seeing as i am the oldest student in town being 48 i remember my dad having a leslie speaker. i am hacked off it just doesn't sound like that lol.

Well, I doubt your professor expects you to make the perfect Leslie emulation, considering no one really has. I mean, you're not even playing it through a rotary speaker, so it's only going to sound so much like the real thing. There's a lot of subtleties in those old amps in general that you're not likely to emulate if you're new to Pd. Doppler and panning are the main elements. I can't imagine he/she would expect much more.

I give you props for actually paying for the Loadbang book, though.

alan, sorry for any hasty comments towards some of your classmates recently. They posted here saying, basically, "i have to make a leslie speaker and i don't know anything about pure data and i don't know what the assignment is about. Please help."

people like yourself that make the effort to help themselves, we are only to happy to guide in the (hopefully!) right direction.

the problem is we really need you to post your patches to let us help you.

Hi, hey no worries at all, as with most university projects 90 percent of it is research, the fact they ended up on this forum to a certain extent means they believe they have found a source of information which is reliable. the other problem as with all of these types of projects is that there is no one right answer and with a lack of comparison you can feel a little lost. i am now searching for a comparison and together with my patch we will be able to make some judgements. for me the issue has always been the high end filter when the speaker horn would be facing away from me. i love to take things apart and i think for a lot of the others they miss the ability to be able to do that. for myself i am totally engaged in the whole PD project and am looking to change my 2nd year to sound design from Music Tech.
