im reading charles dodge computer music book and ive come across a mathematical expression to calculate the basic equal tempered division
the book says
"(i is equal to the interval I raised to the 1/N power). For the 12-tone equal tempered system, the basic division of the octave is the semitone (I = 2), and so i is equal to 2 raised to the 1/12 power. Thus two adjacent tones in this system tuned a semitone apart have a frequency ratio of 1:2 raised to the 1/12 power or 1:1.05946..."
id like to know exactly what is the procedure to get the number 1.05946
ive attached a patch in PD that multiplies this number to a given frequency and the result is a frequency a semitone apart
help please!
