Hi, I know at least some of this has been covered before...

I could as the -dev list, but I figured I'd try y'all first: Is there any hope that the Pd-dev team might consider, or is considering extending Pd to allow it to compile standalones, or even export source?

I'm asking because I am going to embark on a rather ambitious project which may become a product prototype. I am interested in Pd because I know it, it is openSource, and easy for novices to use. I intend to develop a device which will combine a realtime DSP engine with novel and intuitive hardware and an object-oriented patching/dataflow environment similar to PD. Ideally, the hardware would be embedded, headless, and *FAST*. Although, within my capabilities at this time is prototyping on a linux box with a realitime kernel.

So, in addition to the above question, I guess I am wondering if anyone is aware of a particularly well-suited DSP toolchain/hardware that is openSource. OR, a DSP language that will fit the bill and allow me to compile executable binaries that will run on embedded processors or DSP hardware.

Hi, I d like to apologize first for not providing any answers to your question.
But i wanted to say that your project seems very interesting. I ve been using Pd for a few months now to process the sound of my guitar in realtime, and i've felt limited more often than not by the hardware my setup requires. Although the power of Pd in terms of sound processing is almost unlimited, a laptop isn't quite as handy (should I say footy?) as a set of stompboxes when it comes to playing live. And even though i do believe that powerful and flexible DSP will be part of the future of most musicians, I am certain that people will start asking for something like your product pretty soon.

well, there is a pretty expensive rack mountable device out there, can't remember what it's called that loads up and runs VST plugins, like they're hardwired digital devices.

I bought my 7" eeepc for this reason (to run pd), it's tiny, and when set up properly (with linux) you can easily get it to boot up a stripped OS, and load up your patch with -nogui ready for communication with HID. no mouse, no keyboard, no montor (think then how tiny it could be)

In fact, thinking about this... Our very on Hans Christoph Steiner has a project running called reware (http://dev.eyebeam.org/projects/reware/blog) which puts linux onto old devices (PDAs, phones, ipods, e.t.c.). Get one with a USB, plug in your audio device and you have pd running no probs.

I hope so. The need that you expressed for foot control was the impetus for my design. The controllers will be an impromptu network of "stomp-boxes."

Indeed, My plan as of now is to build off of a headless audio "server." Running realtime linux. Patches will be downloaded to flash, and if you want a gui, you can forward the X daemon via ssh to a netbook.
