I'm curious about running MAX externals in Pd. If I have the source code for the original MAX object, is there a straightforward way to compile it differently for Pd or are there deeper issues afoot here?

it's probably doable, but will likely take lots of modifications to the source. unfortunately i'm no programmer so i can't help you but i'm sure if you post and lurk on the irc chan (#dataflow on freenode) you can find people that can help you.

You could also consult the Pd-list. I've never programmed externals myself, but the cyclone library is basically native Max objects for Pd, and though you can't get the source for Max's objects, it might be helpful to look at those sources. In addition, many externals are done in both Pd and Max. www.maxobjects.com typically mentions when an object is coded for both, so comparing the source of an object that's made for both might also help.
