I find that [hidin] recognizes only a few of the switches, and neither of the levers, of a cheap generic game-controller that I plugged into PD, under Win-XP.

Is this normal, or should I try a 'better' game-controller? Alternatively, is there a better way to go about this?

for me Pd on windows recognizes my logitech USB gamepad pretty fine, if i'm not mistaken it won't pick up one of the sticks but i'd have to check again, i tested it a while ago and didn't really do too much with it.

in other news though, on windows there's an amazing app called XPadder - it lets you map your joystick to keyboard/mouse keys with all sorts of options/settings. maybe you could use that to work around the inputs that don't work. although you will then need to have a key-mapping scheme of some sort, but it should be doable.
