while posting in this thread (http://puredata.hurleur.com/sujet-3032-scale-tonal-intervals) i got the idea of building a random improvisation tool, maybe something you could feed a doublebass sampler with, or something like this.
now, i stuck a bit, 'cause my experience in harmonics theory is quite poor - maybe someones got some advice, or suggestions or just feedback!?

Random scale improvisation
-
nice patch indeed,
i added a simple stuff to make it rhythmically more varied, hope you like it. -
I programmed a walking bassline generator that you can find here. And there's a melody generator in the middle section of this composition (or the cheaper versions here). You might find the scale-note calculation stuff in this patch useful as well. Using a counter or a random walk to go up and down a scale is fun, maybe in combination with a Markov chain and/or a random number generator where some seeds repeat.
(all links to my own patches, but those are the ones I remember because of the time I spent on them... also, some of them are early works, and it shows, but what the hell.)

@ alistair_blunt: good idea, thank you!
@ ichabod: nice patch, that walking bass generator. this was my main intention too in building this patch. i'll have a look at the other links later.
i added a little chord synth to make sound more musical.
hope you'll like it....... -

hope you'll like it.......really nice chord engine, i added a one second line fade in-out to smooth it (in pd osc).
-
did you upload the right patch? can't seem to find any changes in the patch...
-
yes, it's the right one.
i added just a line with a fade in-out triggered by the red toggle itself ($0-onoff), i put it into the pd osc subpatch.
in improvisation_03 the chord engine didn't stop playing properly turning off the red toggle (run)...
