okay, first i have to confess, that this patch is not grown on my own idea, more it's a pd-adaption from a reaktor standard-library ensemble called "space drone".
i always liked that sound generator because of its dark and spheric sounds.
it's not hard to understand the ensemble, it mainly consists of a variable count (up to 100) of bandpass filtered noise-generators (default 30), with some random features for panning, pitchshift and -bending, and so on. at the end of the signal flow is a [feeverb~] object.
the patch is especially good for wind-like sounds or raindrop-soundscapes.
i've been too lazy to edit all presets, so ath moment the first 5 presets are edited, but feel free to make your own....

CAUTION: when changing from one to the next preset, reduce the volume of your monitors - there may occur loud noises because of the very different settings, especially because of the reverb.

so, just open the patch "Winds of Doom" and have fun!

p.s.: uses [svf~] and [freeverb~] - could be a problem on vanilla!?

you are right, the gui of the original is much more beautyful, especially the visuals for the amplitude and panning of all noisegenerators. but i wanted to save cpu power, for it seems, that pd is real cpu hog in relation to its gui display. and yes, i know, i could have written a short description how to control the synth - but if you know space drone, the controls of this one do nearly the same, except that there are additional controls for the reverb in my patch.

very nice! I did the same exercise few years ago, you can get the
patch at http://alberto.zin.googlepages.com/puredata (it's called OuterSpace).
It sounds very similar to yours (but I wanted 128 voices instead of 96

Regarding the visuals of Spacedrone I implemented them in Processing and by enabling
the Pure Data -> Processing OSC communication. At the end I got not so good results
in terms of visual performance (it was something like 300 kb /s exchange between the
two applications) so I never shared them... In processing it's very easy to set up the
Spacedrone visuals, you just need to exchange pan and amplitude information between
Pd and Processing at a rate of at least 25 Hz..

So... what about porting the magnificent Skrewell

cool, nice sounding patch too! it's sounds a little different to mine, but great too. i have to enhance some little things in my structure to save some cpu power (for example i use a noise~ object in every(!) voice, but i only need one for all voices) - at the moment it's not possible to run 100 voices on my machine. but i find, this many voices are not needed to get a good and fat sound.
what i found out in your patch is, that reducing the voices leads to a reduction of mainly high voices - was this your intention? i solved that by creating the voices as abstractions dynamically with their basic-pitch as argument - but i create them in 10th steps and use modulo to begin again the lowest voice.... sorry my english is too poor.
what i mean is, when i have a count of ten voices i have already coverd the whole frequency spectrum.

p.s.: a skrewell adaption would be a nice idea too, but i didn't already get me into it.... i hate reverse engeneering...

yes, a single instance of noise~ would help in reducing the cpu load. Another (maybe useful) suggestion is to use
a switch~ for the voices that are not in use at a certain time. Anyway you're right, a nice sound does not need
too many voices (96 are a lot, 128 too many .

I approached that problem by using a "frequency spacing" parameter, so even with few voices I can span
the 20-20000 Hz region (each "voice" has a center frequency f = f0 x n x dF where f0 is the "base" frequency,
n is the voice number and dF is the frequency spacing), but in that case, if you reduce the number of voices and you
want to preserve the full spectrum span you need to increase the frequency spacing..

Anyway, I really enjoyed winds of doom, thanks for sharing.
I particularly like the "drops" effects (preset 2 if i'm not wrong), it's really good.

Skrewell is an instrument for which I'd pay to have it ported in Pd (ok, kudos, not real euros ..
In case you change idea let me know, maybe sometime we can join the efforts for this ...

oh, don't get me wrong, i'd love to get that started, but i never had a look inside "skrewell", so i don't know anything about how it works. but maybe this would be a nice collaboration project!? but i'm really new to pd, i really use it now for a few weeks, although i have some experience in reaktor and i was interested in pd for some time.

p.s.: when you decrease the number of voices in "winds...", the corresponding abstractions will be deleted, so you don't need to switch em off. also, when you increase voices there will be new abstractions created.
i'm working on some little enhancements for it, will upload it soon (i hope...;)...)

Just stumbled across this—I love it.

It might be my own ignorance, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to change any of the controls on this thing. Which is a shame since it sounds so cool.
