Hello,

I really want to learn audio programming language, but still can't decide which will best suit my needs. Pd, csound, chuck, nyquist, faust and others.. This amount just blows my mind, i completely lost. I just know that 2 of this pile don't fits my needs - it's sc (couse i'm on windows basically), and max/msp (couse pd is free, and i like it better).
So, i really, really need help to decide.
I want basically:
1. Create extraordinary samples.
2. Sequence them in extraordinary ways.
3. Create extraordinary effects.
4. Apply them in extraordinary ways:)

Can i do this with pd? Or is there better choice?
Any answers will'b much appreciated, i MUST decide finally.

1. "Samples" implies taking bits of real-world audio and using it out of context. A simple audio editor would suffice for sampling, and be a heckofalot easier than PD for that purpose.

2. PD is an excellent environment for sequencing and scoring, everything from XOXO 16/16 144bpm beat-making, to avant 20th century indeterminate graphic scoring, to random chance equations and algorithmic generative nonsense. PD is great for this stuff because, like MAX/MSP, it contains one part CONTROL fuctions, and one part

3. DSP functions, which is where 'effects' come in. PD provides much much more than just any old reverb plugin or preset plastic monster. FFT, bitwise operations, you name it.

Additionally, you can go down the list of fashionable open-sourcey protocols/libraries/whatever and they're all in there: or they will be, like, soon.

...and that's why I like PD.

Thank you, but i saw this link before.
It's not very useful, because i really don't care in which programming language source code of environment is written and other technical things.
I just want to know which tasks is easier and which is harder to do in particular environment.
And this wiki link writes just about primary purposes..

For beginning PD has a nice help browser (command + where you can find useful tutorials in learning order. And the support through its huge community is one of the best you can have. So I think to start programming sounds PD is a good choise.
The learned way of programming in PD you can adopt to other languages later as well.
