I don't think it matters, actually. I run pd on ubuntu just fine. did you install it from the repo? you should be able to find pd, pd-zexy, pd-gem, pd-php, etc in the repo if you add universe and multiverse.
also, I very highly recommend the pd-extended test release from http://at.or.at/hans/pd/installers.html. there's several nice changes from the vanilla pd that you get in the repo.

they all work well. probably whatever is easiest for you to use. I happen to like Debian and 64 Studio. But any one will suffice
dont forget about low-latency kernel. i'm using ubuntu studio that shipped with both pd and low-latency kernel
