I just started with with PD and I'm trying to create a bullet hit generator patch (hitting a car or some such large metallic object), but stuff I've come up with sounds more like bells or musical instruments than bullet hits (more "pling" than "thud-plong").

I'm using noise source and impulse (taken from kalashnikov tutorial by obiwannabe) with six bandpass filters with high resonance, but how do you people go about creating less musical sounds? My sounds are way too thinny, they sound like penny dropping and not like mass of metal hit violently.

Also, what would be the way to do a sound of bullet whizzing past the listener, tumbling in the air (that is, how to do doppler shift effect)? I didn't find PD examples on google, maybe because it's so trivial. I was thinking if bandpass filter with moving frequency would do the trick (from high to low)?

    Thanks!

Thanks again, this one is bit better but my way of creating doppler of leaving bullet is probably wrong. I just made decaying envelope, multiplied it and added that to base hertz numbers that control individual oscillators to make it start high and go to low, but the sound is somewhat stepped or crackling.

Any idea how to improve this and base ricochet sound of my weak patch?

Also, are there some info about frequencies of different materials, current unevolving hit sound might be bar of stone hit with a hammer. It would be good to know how to make wood shatter and metal to dent believably (I've been thinking about your book obiwannabe, does it have info about materials?).

    Cheers (Pd is fun)!

Thanks a lot for the info!

I had a go but I don't know how to properly proceed about modulation scheme (I went blindly), and I had no luck with doppler (if it is a bandpass filter with moving frequency I couldn't get one to work).

So it sounds false (and after some mindless tinkering it started to sound like a wooden instrument).
