if if send a bang a color message in droidparty, it tirggers a bang.
i'm guessing it treats the color message the same as it treats anything.

i've set it up in pd with the bang color as an indicator of various states, so banging it will cycle through colors. when receiving a bang will trigger a color change, but droidparty instead seems to set up a loop :p

canvas, toggle and hslider also do not accept color messages.

is there any thing else i might be able to try. ??

eg. this in a message box works in pd, but not in droidparty.

    ; tglname color 3 ; hslidername color 3 ; canvasname color 3

the main issue i'm facing is how to hide abstractions or subpatches from ordinary view.

i've come across the graph on parent, so i figure i can make all the necessary abstractions/subpatches small attractive boxes free of anything that are not so obvious.

it does seem silly though :)
    are there better alternatives ?

i hope the title and my jargon/nonclementure is correct/appropriate :)

i'm having trouble with saving GUI settings in a nested array.
the array is in an object within the main patch.

basically the arrays are saving sequence data for recall. all works fine except saving.

when i open the nested patch containing the array and save it seperately, the new data is saved. if i only save the main patch, all updated array data is lost :(

how do i go about getting the arrays to save themselves ???
preferably without any user interaction, just closing the main window..

    thanks.

ps i'm new here from Max. so i have limited knowledge of pd, and if any answers involve some sort of save path could you explain it briefly as its been a while since i've even messed with Max :)

well i've opened my patch in droidparty,
and it seems that signal flow through a gate abstraction is failiing.
so i'm trying to work out where teh problem is and how to solve it.

does droidparty support gate ? i'm guessing no.

can i somehow whack it into my patch folder and then it will work ?
i managed to find what i assume is THE gate abstraction in the puredata/cyclone folder of extra's.
    it's named "gate.pd_darwin"

i put it into the patch folder and no luck. i changed the name to gate.pd and the patch crashes :p

any ideas to get it to work ?

i've had a couple of ideas on how to make it look like it's changing colour.
both using canvases of differing colours.

one is to have them sitting behind another canvas of neutral colour, that then the desired colour is moved to visibility.

the other is to have them sitting on top of each other, and send them messages to come forward.
so the preferred colour is then on top of the others..

is there a message to do this ?

    tahnks.

thanks, i'm not entirely down wit the terminology yet :p

is it that abstractions are part of the actual puredata program ? i did look and look and they do not seem to exist as seperate files in the puredata program folder.

and i've switched to vanilla to make something for droidparty so made up a gate style patch. i was hoping that the gate external was something i could just put in my folder and it would work with droidparty, but obviously it doesnt.

could you tell me what does the darwin bit of the file type mean ?
    (gate.pd_darwin)

    ok.
    just found this thread
    http://puredata.hurleur.com/sujet-2431-hiding-objects-connections

it talks about using graph on parent,
and also using a canvas to cover objects..

    that probably covers it :)

    i've done all the send/receives.
my question really resolves around teh abstractions/subpatches with the processing goodness in them. . .

i've got about a bunch of abstractions/subpatches sitting out of the way but still in the main window/patch, as far as i can tell, i could possibly put everything into one subpatch (as long as that doesnt break anything :p) - leaving me with one non gui object ..

if i then got that last subpatch to do the graph on parent thing it would look like some sort of rectangular shape, which would be easy to integrate somehow into the overall gui effect.

(i've just come from Max, where you can just make stuff invisible .. )

    thanks

    yes, nested is abstraction.
you're idea is exactly what i did :)

now i'm considering the final GUI and the best way to hide objects not utilised..

i've come across the graph on parent idea, making the subpatch an empty canvas. is this the best way to hide objects not necessary for the final GUI ?

i'll ask in another thread :p

lol it did just occur to me to put the arrays into a subpatch rather than than being nested .. then they save with the main patch...

but i still would like to know of a way to get a nested patch to save .

    thanks.
