I'm running a beginners crash course on Pd and I have a couple of students who have windows 7. There is some strange behavior. I told them to create a folder called 'my_patches' or something, inside the Pd folder. One of them can't see the folder at all in her computer when Pd is not running, while when she's running Pd, using File -> Open, the folder is there with all the contents. The other one can see the folder but the patches have a lock sign when Pd is not running, and she too can open everything when Pd is running.
Is this something usual? I haven't seen it before.

What folder do you mean when you say "Pd folder"? And why are you having them put it there?

The 'Pd' folder in the Program files folder. Well, I tell them to put it in there so they can have all Pd stuff in one place (doc, bin, extra etc). Also, when one of them saved a patch in some other place (say, the desktop), Pd couldn't open the patch, till it was moved to the above mentioned folder...

You shouldn't really be putting anything in Program Files because it's all supposed to be data for the application, and there is a potential to mess it up. Windows is probably trying to prevent that. Also, when you update to a newer version of Pd, there's a pretty good chance that everything you saved in that folder will get deleted.

I think it would be safest and more practical to put it in something like "My Documents". That's what it's there for, after all, and if Pd can't open files from there, then there is something wrong.
