I'm trying to add the FFTease 2 library to PD and couldn't make it (rrr, I'm frustrated) I have placed it under HD/users/Library/Pd, but it does not work. Any suggestion why it doesn't?
I'm running Mac OS 10.6.8

BTW, how do I make a library load on startup? I can't figure out the Preference/startup menu. If I locate a library in the ~/Library/Pd (library under Users) and then add it to the startup list, should it work next time I run PD? Does it know the path? (couldn;t find a way to add a path to any library)

OK, I found a way to do that...
First, go to Applications and right-click on Pd-extension and choose "Show Package Contents". find the "extra" folder: Contents/Resources/extra. Drag all the relevant files from the FFTease library (in case of Intel mac, those are the files ending with ".pd_darwin". You'll have to authenticate this move with your general password.
You cannot drug the folder with all the files and place it under "extra" - it didn't work for me. You'll have to put all of them under extra, without an enclosing folder. (I assume the folder is for one object only).
Drag all the help files of FTTease library into Contents/Resources/doc/5.reference
You're all set.

If you put them all in a folder in /Library/Pd, you should be able to load the library with [import] or [declare], or load individual objects by prefixing it with the folder name. For example, if the folder is called FFTease, then you could load an object as [FFTease/objectname].

Editing the startup libs in the Preferences has been disabled in Pd-extended 0.43, which I'm thinking is a good thing overall. It forces you to load the necessary libs within the patch itself, which makes them easier to share since it self-documents what libraries are needed.

Also, while the "extra folder" trick works, I would recommend avoiding that if possible. Because when you update Pd, that folder will get replaced, and you'll either lose the libs you've downloaded or will have to tediously pick through your old installation and move everything to the new one.

Good to hear from you and thanks for the advice, which makes a lot of sense...
So this is what I did:
I deleted all the individual objects of the FFTease library from the "Extra". Then, I placed the FFTease library in /Library/Pd/FFTease. Now, when I use the object [import /Library/Pd/FFTease] I get an error message: "error: [import]: can't load library in '/Library/Pd/FFTease'". If I send bang to the [import] object, I do not get any message, but if I try to place one of the objects of the library (such as [thresher~]), Pd is not able to create it. Maybe I'm not familiar with the use of [import].
Using [declare] did not help as well. This is what I typed: [declare -lib /Library/Pd/FFTease]
BTW, I also placed a copy of the FFTease library in the library under Users, but it didn't work. Trying to save the patch and reopen it did not do it.
Any suggestion?

I just tried [declare -path /Library/Pd/FFTease] and it does work!!!
I guess I did not use the [declare] properly. I still wonder what's right way to use the [import] object...

Hi Maelstorm. It doesn't work. I have the FFTease folder both in the HD library, and the library under my username. In both cases, trying the [import FFTease] I get the message: "error: [import]: can't load library in 'FFTease'" (I wonder why it says "in FFTease")

I guess it's possible that it's just not structured right for [import]. But if [declare] works, it works.

I'm trying to import the library but can't do it. I've moved the folder with the objects to the 'extra' folder as the README indicates, but won't work. I've followed this thread and moved it to /Library/Pd (a copy was made actually, even though I dragged and dropped), used both [declare] and [import] and still can't make it. I get the following message:
/Applications/Pd-extended.app/Contents/Resources/extra/xsyn~.pd_darwin: dlopen(/Applications/Pd-extended.app/Contents/Resources/extra/xsyn~.pd_darwin, 10): no suitable image found. Did find:
/Applications/Pd-extended.app/Contents/Resources/extra/xsyn~.pd_darwin: mach-o, but wrong architecture

"mach-o, but wrong architecture" usually means you're using a version compiled on a different processor than you are using (i.e., PPC on an Intel Mac). Are you sure you downloaded the right version?

There is one version for Mac PPC and the other for Mac Intel, so you'll have to download the right version for your computer.
Another thing: after entering the following object: [declare -path /Library/Pd/FFTease], save the patch, close it and reopen. Otherwise it still doesn't recognize the objects in the library. This was the only way I could make it work...

Well, I've deleted the previous folder and downloaded the all platforms one, and used the correct one (os x, intel), but still get the same error message. The funny thing is that I get this message only for [xsyn~]. For the rest of the objects I get only a 'couldn't create' message. Dunno..

Finally got to create the library's objects using Preferences -> Path
