I find many useful patches that are in text format, I read somewhere that you can just change the extension to .pd and it will open as a patch. However, when I try this I get errors:

#X no such object..

I am on .39.3 extended intel mac.

would greatly appreciate any advice. I searched around this forum and on the pd list to no avail.

could you post the .pd file your are having trouble with. you might have copied and pasted more or less than you needed. have done that more than once.

no, nothing at all.
I get an error and it doesn't even create the file in pd..
I am pasting this into a text editor and then changing the extension on my desktop to .pd and then opening it from there into pd. What am I doing incorrectly?

it works for me. i just copy from your post & pasted it on a text, save it with no associated application. then on the desktop just rename it as"harmonizer.pd" & the icon automatically change to a pd file. i'm using pd-extended for macbook intel.

yes, no luck here. It of course changes to a Pd file complete with icon, but it will not open in pd; only reads as an error: #X no such object...
I am copying it into mac's text edit and saving it as an RTF and then changing it on the desktop. Seems like it should be working right?

rtf is your problem- they have formatting meta text that pd doesn't like. You have to deliberately tell it to save as a plain text file, and then use the .pd appending instead of .txt. plain text is a choice in the format menu, IIRC.
