Hi,
I converted an SDIF file into a text file and I am trying to load it into a textfile object.
I am using an example patch that was using an [openpanel] object, and normally you would manually select the file you want to open, and that works fine.
But I want my version to be automated with a loadbang and read the file upon opening the patch. I tried a few things and nothing is working.

Seems like this should be a simple matter, but it's got me stumped.
I am including an image so you can see what I'm talking about.

@nicnut You probably get a "bad arguments" message in the console.
You will need to define your filename as a symbol (openpanel takes care of that behind the scenes)......so.....

[whatever.txt(
|
[symbol]
|
[read $1 cr(

If the files are in the same folder as the patch it will then work.
If the files are somewhere else you should also [declare] inside your patch the path to the files.
[declare -path c:/etc/etc] the whole path from the root of the drive.

I tried your suggestion.

I am getting this error:

inlet: expected 'float' but got 'list'

Any other ideas of what to try?

@nicnut I cannot replicate that under windows 7 in any version of Pd...... they all work.
Does the error message tell you which object is complaining?
