I like aggrivating over pd problems quite a bit, but in this case would just rather ask:

Does anyone know how to simulate a (physical) spring?

i.e. like a bend-wheel does.

So when you move the slider up or hold it in position it stays, i.e. remains at that constant value. But when you release it, it [line]s back to x, for instance 63.5 or
0.5.

@svanya Hi, this method uses [receivecanvas] from iemguts to get the mouse state. The "spring" action is linear (using line), whereas a real spring would accellerate. I don't know hot to emulate that behaviour in the control realm.

I added one thing, now when you click on the slider before it has finished to spring back the line is stopped and you can drag it without it having to complete the journey back.
Unfortunately it does so whenever you click anywhere in the canvas. Theoretically we could filter and moses the "mouse" message to just the canvas area occupied by the slider, but that sounds a bit too involved.

@weightless Great, i added another spigot, that is opened by mousedown and lets any value from the slider stop the movement, similar to what the other spigot does for mouseup (in reverse order):

@ingox I'm not sure whether that is the behaviour @svanya intended, but in your patch the "spring" only sets the slider value, it doesn't change it. If you connect a number atom to the output of slider, you'll see that while the spring sets the slider back to the rest value, the output value stays at where you last left it with the mouse.

@weightless Yes, this is intended as it makes the code much easier, because it separates gui from code. The value is at the number box at the bottom, so any value would be taken from there instead of the slider.

Am very sorry to say on the other hand, I did not state the problem as accurately and succinctly as I should have.

To the problem, as stated, the solution is perfect.

The problem, stated more directly (not doing the abstracting in the writing of the use-case (common pd-forum user-problem?)):

"I want to be able to add a slider to Mobmuplat (MMP) and have it self-center like a bend-wheel/tremolo-bar, and then send its resultant value over LAN as an OSC signal to my laptop with pd on it. And MMP is vanilla-only. (So no iem-guts.)"

Note: the wonderful, iOS app, "Syntien" (an OSC-gui design tool) has a property on its slider like this, "return to center". (Only handheld-app I have ever bought).

(I'll double check the above...) Yes. The above scenario is correct.

Seems such a control, would prove useful to not only me, but a wider audience. (Maybe?)

p.s. I approached the above problem by placing aerially-speaking "drag" on the slider, so incrementally it subtracted from the slider value then sent it back into the slider. The result was stack-overflows.

Any ideas on this front would be great.

@svanya Hello..... You can use [change] in the feedback loop to stop a stack overflow (Vanilla, but in the Momuplat list?).
I don't know how you will get a "mouseup" though. It can be done with a tcl/tk "-plugin" in Pd..... but Mobmuplat is Java?
Daniel @monkeyswarm (Mobmuplat author I think) might be able to help......
Is there anything in the Mobmuplat arsenal that will send "touch" or "pressure" data?
There probably is, and it might come in (incoming osc for Pd) as something like "/system/touch/something value"

@svanya I don't think it's possible to get the mouse state in vanilla without externals (or plugins), and using data structures will only give you a click.

I second @whale-av's suggestion to see if you can get some pressure values from the platform and use that to adapt some of the above patches.

hi, i used your some of your code to simulate a pitchwheel using [MouseState]/TuioMouse.
it simply sends the mouse pointer to the center of the screen on mouse click.
